UpsideDown is a Canadian producer and DJ of Indian descent. He primarily produces EDM, Hip Hop, R&B, Pop and Fusion Music and is influenced by American producers such as Kanye West, Dr. Dre, Timbaland and others. UpsideDown's style of production consists of combining traditional instruments with modern rhythm and percussion. [1] [2]

Early life

UpsideDown was born in New Delhi, India and raised in Toronto, Ontario, where he produced for underground Hip hop and R&B artists. He attended college and studied Mechanical Engineering to pursue a career in Technology and later moved to Los Angeles to pursue Music. [3]

Career

UpsideDown collaborated with Mickey Singh & Amar Sandhu to produce music for the records "Tonight" and "Rooftop Party" which were released through Speed Records in 2015. [4] [5] He also produced a Dance Version (Remix) of the title track for the movie Ambarsariya featuring vocals by Diljit Dosanjh which was released through Tips Music in 2015. [6]

UpsideDown appeared on BBC Radio 1 hosted by Bobby Friction in 2016. [7] for his track "How Many Shots" featuring vocals by Amar Sandhu. [8] [9] He also released a track on BBC Radio 1 called "Only You" featuring vocals by R&B singer Anthony Lewis. [10] [11]

In 2016, UpsideDown produced the records "Phone" and "Hold Me" for Mickey Singh. [12] [13]

In March 2016, UpsideDown participated in New York's first Urban Music Conference alongside other South Asian artists such as Raghav, Mickey Singh, Raxstar, The Prophec, Amar Sandhu and others. [14] [15]

In 2017, he produced the track 'Temple" for Jasmin Walia alongside Zack Knight. [16]

UpsideDown collaborated with Asim Azhar in 2017 and produced the track "5 AM". [17] [18]

On May 10, 2018, UpsideDown released his first solo single "Got It All" featuring fellow Canadian singer songwriter The PropheC. The music video starred Bollywood actress Sunny Leone. [19] [20]

UpsideDown released another single "Cyclone" on August 2, 2018 which featured UK based artist Jaz Dhami. The track was released through Saavn's Artist Originals. [21] [22] [23]

In December 2018, UpsideDown released an Electronic/Dance EP titled "Ups & Downs". [24]

Asian underground is a term associated with various British Asian and South Asian Canadian musicians who blend elements of Western underground dance music and the traditional Asian music of their home countries in South Asia. The sound has roots in the South Asian Diaspora, and many notable musicians within the genre are immigrants or children of immigrants. The first well-known mention was the compilation album Anokha - Soundz of the Asian Underground released in 1997 and masterminded by Talvin Singh and Sweety Kapoor. The Cardiff Mela is an annual large-scale outdoor multicultural festival, held in the city's Roald Dahl Plass, in Cardiff Bay. It is a free event and run by a not for profit organisation based in Cardiff. It celebrates many cultural aspects of Asian life, particularly music, dance, fashion and food. The annual event first took place on an outdoor location in 2007 at Coopers Field, Cardiff Castle in the heart of Cardiff City Centre. The 2009 festival featured bhangra, Bollywood and rnb singers including H Dhami, Mumzy Stranger and Navin Kundra amongst others. The 2010 event attracted over 30,000 visitors and featured a performance from Bombay Rockers.

"Ghaint Patola" is a song by the bhangra-rap group Offlicence produced by a new up and coming Asian producer named J-Ice. The single was released on iTunes on April 21, 2011. The song debuted at #2 on the Official Top 40 Asian Download Chart on May 7, 2011.

PBN or Punjabi By Nature is a UK-based Indian music producer, singer and songwriter, specialising in bhangra and Asian fusion productions, working with a great number of Desi music artists mainly based in the UK, beginning with the early 2000s. Raxstar is a British rapper and singer from Luton. Raxstar came into popularity after the release of "Keep It Undercover" in 2005. Following up with tracks like "Jaaneman", "Ego", "Poison" and "Balwant", he gained more mainstream attention, and has become one of the most popular artists in Desi hip hop.

Neal Chatha, known by his stage name The PropheC, is an Indo-Canadian singer, songwriter, and record producer. His debut album, Forever, was released in 2011, and contained one of his first hit single "Sohni". Since then, he has released five more studio albums: Futureproof (2014), The Lifestyle (2016), The Season (2019), Solace (2021), Midnight Paradise(2023) and a mixtape titled The Dream Room (2013). Amar Sandhu is an American born Punjabi and Hindi singer, songwriter, music composer and producer. He is best known for his unique Punjabi/English fusion sound and his 2015 Album "New Era", featuring hits such as "Rooftop Party", "Double Addi", and "Replaceable".
