The State Legislative Council,or Vidhan Parishad,or Saasana Mandali is the upper house in those states of India that have a bicameral state legislature;the lower house being the State Legislative Assembly. Its establishment is defined in Article 169 of the Constitution of India.

He is also a former president of the All Assam Students Union,an organization that spearheaded the Assam Movement from 1979 to 1985.In August 2005,his membership in the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) was terminated.So,he floated a new political party,Asom Gana Parishad (Progressive) on 15 September 2005.
Boro,also called Bodo,is a Sino-Tibetan language spoken primarily by the Boro people of India,Nepal and Bangladesh. It is an official language of the Indian state of Assam,predominantly spoken in the Bodoland Territorial Region. It is also one of the twenty-two languages listed in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution of India. Since 1975 the language has been written using the Devanagari script. It was formerly written using Latin and Eastern-Nagari scripts. Some scholars have suggested that the language used to have its own now lost script known as Deodhai.
Bijoy Krishna Handique was an Indian politician who was a member of the 15th Lok Sabha of India. He represented the Jorhat constituency of Assam and was a member of the Indian National Congress (INC) political party. He was the only son of Krishna Kanta Handique,a renowned Indologist. Handique was a senior Member of Parliament from the North Eastern Region and represented the Jorhat Lok Sabha,Assam for six consecutive terms since 1991 to 2009. He was also the member of the Asom Gana Parishad from 2001 to 2011.

Anchalik Gana Morcha is an regional Indian political party,launched in June 2020 in Assam. It is led by former Rajya Sabha MP Ajit Kumar Bhuyan. It is part of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) and contested the 2021 Assam Legislative Assembly election as a part of the Mahajot under the leadership of the Indian National Congress (INC). It is the only party from opposition to have a seat in Rajya Sabha from Assam.
