UrwaTul Wusqua Hussain, better known by her stage name Urwa Hocane (born 2 July 1991) is a Pakistani actress, model and media personality. [1] She made her acting debut with Khushboo Ka Ghar as Rukhsana in 2012. [2] Hocane is best known for portraying Meera in Udaari which earned her Hum Awards for Best On-screen Couple shared with Farhan Saeed and a nomination in the Hum Awards for Best Actress Popular. She played the role of Guddi in Momina Duraid's Mushk which earned her a Lux Style Award for Best Actress Critics nomination. [3]

She made her film debut with Nabeel Qureshi's romantic comedy Na Maloom Afraad and later appeared in Punjab Nahi Jaungi , directed by Nadeem Baig. In 2022, she is all set to make her debut as a producer with the romantic drama Tich Button . [4]

Early life and career

Hocane was born in Karachi, but she grew up in Islamabad, where she completed her education at Bahria College, Islamabad. She is the elder sister of another television actress, Mawra Hocane. As a teenager, she performed as a theater artist before she started working as a VJ for ARY Musik. [2] As a sign of filial devotion to her younger sibling Mawra, when Urwa started her career, she chose to use the name Hocane, [1] and over time, it stuck.[ citation needed ]

Career

Hocane made her acting debut with a leading role in the 2012 romantic drama Meri Ladli alongside Ahsan Khan and Sajal Ali. She later appeared in serials such as Kahi Un Kahi and Madiha Maliha . Her portrayal of a girl subjected to family pressures and a forced wedding in Marasim .[ citation needed ]

She made her film debut in the 2014 romantic comedy Na Maloom Afraad , opposite Fahad Mustafa, Mohsin Abbas Haider, and Javed Sheikh. The film received generally positive reviews, and she was praised for her performance. [5] She was offered Ekta Kapoor's Bollywood film Azhar alongside Emran Hashmi, which she refused saying, she was not going to do kissing and bold scenes on screen. [6]

In January 2019, Hocane announced her first project as a producer, a romantic film with her husband Farhan Saeed titled Tich Button. They are producing the film together. [7] In March, Hocane posted a picture from her shooting of Tich Button at Nankana Sahib, on her Instagram account. [8]

In June 2019, she launched her clothing line in collaboration with her sister Mawra Hocane. [9]

In 2020, she starred in the television series Mushk opposite Imran Ashraf. [10]

Personal life

Hocane married Farhan Saeed on 16 December 2016 at Lahore, Pakistan. [11] [12] [13] On 6 October 2023, Hocane and Saeed announced their pregnancy through social media. [14]

<i>Udaari</i> 2016 Pakistani TV series or programme

Udaari is an Urdu and Punjabi language social Pakistani television series that was created and co-produced by Kashf Foundation and Momina Duraid for Hum TV. It focused on the social and economic marginalisation of citizens in Pakistani rural society alongside highlighting deeply rooted issues such as child sexual abuse, gender discrimination and violence against women. It was originally aired from 10 April 2016 to 4 September 2016. The show is written by Farhat Ishtiaq and directed by Mohammed Ehteshamuddin. The plot of Udaari centres on the families of two Punjabi villagers Sheedan and Sajida. Sheedan faces discrimination as she is in the performing arts and is looked down upon as belonging to the "Marasis" which is a derogatory term when referring to musicians. Whereas Sajda is a widow and a struggling single mother working as a maid for her daughter's upbringing, she decides to marry Imtiaz for her daughter's wellbeing. Story takes a turn when Sheedan's daughter Ameera accuses Imtiaz of sexually harassing her.

Maryam Fatima is a Pakistani Model and Television Actress. She made her acting debut in January 2016 with a leading role in the highly acclaimed Hum TV drama serial Lagao alongside Zainab Qayyum and Adnan Jaffar. She has played the lead role of Ujala in ARY Digital's series Kab Mere Kehlaoge.

<i>Sammi</i> (TV series) Television series

Sammi(in Punjabi سمی ) is a Pakistani television drama serial about social causes that airs on Hum TV from 28 January 2017. It is written by Noor ul Huda Shah and directed by Saife Hassan. Set in rural Rahim Yar Khan, the series centers social issues on the rural society revolving around the concept of Vanni and shows moral lessons against common issues such as gender discrimination. Depicting the Vanni concept, storyline revolves around the journey of Sammi, a young girl who was sold off by her family to the Chaudhry family where her brother had killed her fiancé. Simultaneously it revolves around reality based issues with different characters within the same plot. It was nominated for Best Drama Serial at the 6th Hum Awards.
