V. Selvaganesh is an Indian percussionist working in the Carnatic tradition and one of the leading kanjira (south Indian frame drum) players of his generation. [1] He is also known as "Chella S. Ganesh."

Career

Selvaganesh gained world fame through tours with John McLaughlin's group, Remember Shakti. [2] He helps his father, Grammy-Nominated T.H. "Vikku" Vinayakram, to run the Sri JGTV school and train a new generation of Carnatic percussionists. He has also composed and produced albums and played with the Swedish bass player Jonas Hellborg and American guitar virtuoso Shawn Lane.

In 2012, Selvaganesh made his film directorial debut with Bodhai, [3] a short film in Tamil. He also composed the four-track soundtrack which was released in digital format by Saregama. [4]

Starring Kishore of Polladhavan and Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu fame, Tinnu Anand, who starred in Mani Ratnam's Nayakan and Bombay, comedy actor Sathyan and Smitha, a newcomer from Karnataka, in lead roles and seven artists as Villains, the film has musical score by Rohit Kulkarni. Icon: A Transcontinental Gathering is an album by bassist Jonas Hellborg, released on 25 January 2003 through Bardo Records. The album merges contemporary jazz-fusion and traditional Indian improvised music and features guitarist Shawn Lane in his last officially released studio recording before his death in September of that year, as well as the sons of ghatam player Vikku Vinayakram: Selvaganesh (kanjeera), Umashankar (ghatam) and Umamamesh (vocals), who also perform passages of konnakol, the vocal "scatting" often used as a memory device by Indian percussionists. The album's name stands for a common cross-cultural ideal image, beyond vanity and self-identity, also present in this kind of musical communication.

The film is based on the clash of two sports cricket and kabaddi. The film had its theatrical release on 7 December 2018 and received extremely negative reviews from the critics. The film was described as an awful discredit to the sport of kabaddi.
