Vagif Javadov (Azerbaijani : Vaqif Cavadov; born 25 May 1989) is an Azerbaijani football coach and a former player who played as a striker. He was voted Azerbaijani Footballer of the Year in 2009.

Javadov started playing football at age 7 and attended one of the local football schools under Vagif Pashayev. He joined CSKA's youth system at 11, playing for the club's youth and reserve teams as a striker. [1] [2] In 2007, he left CSKA Moscow and joined Qarabağ. [3] [4]

Club career

After settling into the team and under the tutelage of Gurban Gurbanov, Javadov's play improved immensely and he managed to become a favourite of FK Qarabağ fans shortly thereafter. Javadov reaffirmed his importance to the club with an impressive first two seasons with FK Qarabağ, where he made almost 100 appearances and scored many goals in the league winning campaign. And he has also played in Europa League well in the matches against Rosenborg in 2010 and Twente. After matches against Twente, the Dutch team bought the footballer. His full name is Vagif Fuzuli oglu Javadov.

On 26 December 2009, following on from a successful World Cup 2010 qualification and Europa League campaign, he signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with FC Twente for an undisclosed fee. [5] [6] [7] [8] However, he failed to debut within 8 months following a string of injuries. [9] [10]

On 30 August 2010, Twente agreed to loan to FC Baku for a year with the option that Twente's scouts will decide after the loan spell, his return to the club or selling permanently to Baku. [11] [12]

On 29 June 2011, Javadov signed with the Volga. Following 11 goalless appearances for the Russian club, in January 2012 Javadov left the Volga as a free agent due to salary delays. On 17 January 2012, he signed a new contract with his former club FK Qarabağ.

In June 2013, Javadov signed for Inter Baku. [13] After one year with Inter Baku, Javadov moved to TFF First League team Gaziantep B.B., signing a two-year contract, [14] but left Gaziantep B.B. in January 2015, joining fellow TFF First League side Boluspor on a six-month contract with the option of an additional year. [15]

On 31 August 2015, Javadov signed a four-month loan deal with Gabala FK from FK Khazar Lankaran. [16] Javadov left Gabala at the end of his loan deal. [17]

On 17 January 2018, Keşla FK announced the signing of Javadov on a six-month contract. [18] On 22 June 2018, Javadov a new contract with Keşla until the end of the 2018/19 season. [19]

International career

For Azerbaijan, Javadov is capped 51 times, scoring 9 goal. [20] [21] He made his national team debut on 18 May 2006 against Moldova in friendly match. He scored his first goal on 11 March 2007 against Kyrgyzstan in a friendly match.

Personal life

Javadov is the nephew of Isgandar Javadov, a famous Azerbaijani football player of the 80s. [22]

The Qarabağ 2009–10 season was Qarabağ's 17th Azerbaijan Premier League season, and their second season under Gurban Gurbanov. They finished the season in 3rd place, and were knocked out of the 2009–10 Azerbaijan Cup at the quarterfinal stage by Khazar Lankaran. They also participated in the 2009–10 UEFA Europa League, entering at the Second Qualifying Round stage. They beat Rosenborg BK of Norway, before beating FC Honka of Finland in the Third Qualifying Round. This meant they faced FC Twente of the Netherlands in the Play-off Round, which they lost 1-3 on aggregate.

The AZAL 2013–14 season was AZAL's ninth Azerbaijan Premier League season, in which they finished 8th in the League. They also participated in the Azerbaijan Cup, where they were defeated in the Second Round by Qarabağ. AZAL started the season under the management of Vagif Sadygov, but he was sacked on 16 March 2014 following their defeat to Neftchi Baku, and replaced the following day by former Neftchi Assistant Tarlan Ahmadov.

The 2014–15 season was Gabala's tenth season overall and ninth competing in the Azerbaijan Premier League.

The Inter Baku 2014–15 season is Inter Baku's fourteenth Azerbaijan Premier League season, and their sixth season under manager Kakhaber Tskhadadze. They will compete in the 2014–15 UEFA Europa League, entering at the first qualifying round stage, the Azerbaijan Cup and the League.

The 2015–16 season was Gabala FK's 11th season, and their 10th in the Azerbaijan Premier League, the top-flight of Azerbaijani football. Domestically, Gabala finished 3rd in the Premier League for the third season in a row and reached the semifinals of the Azerbaijan Cup where they were defeated by Neftchi Baku. In Europe Gabala reached the group stages of the UEFA Europa League where they faced PAOK, Krasnodar and Borussia Dortmund before finishing bottom of the group.

The Khazar Lankaran 2015-16 season is Khazar Lankaran's twelfth Azerbaijan Premier League season, and their first season under manager Elbrus Mammadov. They will compete in the Azerbaijan Cup and the League.

The Sumgayit FK 2015-16 season is Sumgayit's fifth Azerbaijan Premier League season, and sixth season in their history. They will participate in the Azerbaijan Cup as well as the League.

The 2016–17 season is Gabala FK's 12th season, and their 11th in the Azerbaijan Premier League, the top-flight of Azerbaijani football. As well as participating in the Premier League, Gabala will take part in the Azerbaijan Cup and UEFA Europa League.

The 2017–18 season was Gabala FK's 13th season, and their 12th in the Azerbaijan Premier League, the top-flight of Azerbaijani football. Gabala finished the season in second place, 16 points behind champions Qarabağ. In the Azerbaijan Cup were runners-up for the second year in a row, losing to Keşla 1-0 in the final whilst they also reached the Third qualifying round of the Europa League before being knocked out by Panathinaikos.

The 2018–19 season was Gabala's 14th season in the Azerbaijan Premier League, the top-flight of Azerbaijani football. The club participated in the Premier League, finishing fourth. They also entered the Azerbaijan Cup, defeating Sumgayit 1-0 to win their first title. They also played in the Europa League, where they were eliminated by Progrès Niederkorn in the first qualifying round.

The Keşla 2018–19 season is Keşla's first full season since the changed their name in 28 October 2017, and the eighteenth Azerbaijan Premier League season.

The Səbail FK 2018-19 season was Səbail's second Azerbaijan Premier League season, and their third season in existence. They finished the season in third position, qualifying for the UEFA Europa League for the first time. Sabail also entered the Azerbaijan Cup, reaching the Quarterfinals before defeat to Zira.

The Sabah FK 2018–19 season was Sabah's first Azerbaijan Premier League season, and their second season in existence.

The 2019–20 season was Gabala FK's 15th season, and their 14th in the Azerbaijan Premier League, the top-flight of Azerbaijani football. Gabala will also take part in the Azerbaijan Cup and the Europa League. Gabala finished the season in 8th position due to the premature end of the season and were spared relegation, whilst they were due to play Zira in the Semifinal of the Azerbaijan Cup before its cancellation. In the Europa League Gabala were knocked out by Dinamo Tbilisi in the Second Qualifying Round.

The 2019–20 Azerbaijan Premier League was the 28th season of the Azerbaijan Premier League with Qarabağ being the defending champions. The season began on 16 August 2019, before being prematurely ended on 19 June 2020.
