The New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) is an economic development program of the African Union (AU). NEPAD was adopted by the AU at the 37th session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government in July 2001 in Lusaka,Zambia. NEPAD aims to provide an overarching vision and policy framework for accelerating economic co-operation and integration among African countries.
The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa was established in 1958 by the United Nations Economic and Social Council to encourage economic cooperation among its member states following a recommendation of the United Nations General Assembly. It is one of five regional commissions.

An under-secretary-general of the United Nations (USG) is a senior official within the United Nations System,normally appointed by the General Assembly on the recommendation of the secretary-general for a renewable term of four years. Under-secretary-general is the third highest rank in the United Nations,after the secretary-general and the deputy secretary-general. The rank is held by the heads of different UN entities,certain high officials of the United Nations Secretariat,and high-level envoys. The United Nations regards the rank as equal to that of a cabinet minister of a member state,and under-secretaries-general have diplomatic immunity under the UN Charter.

He is an Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund. He has been the United Nations Special Envoy on Financing the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda since February 2020. He was the Minister of Investment of Egypt from 2004-2010,and most recently,served as the World Bank Group Senior Vice President for the 2030 Development Agenda,United Nations Relations and Partnerships. His roles at the World Bank also included Managing Director,responsible for Human Development,Sustainable Development,Poverty Reduction and Economic Management,Finance and Private Sector Development,and the World Bank Institute;World Bank President's Special Envoy on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs),the Post-2015 Development Agenda,and Financing for Development;and Corporate Secretary and Executive Secretary to the Development Committee of the World Bank Group's Board of Governors. Dr Mohieldin also served on several Boards of Directors in the Central Bank of Egypt and the corporate sector. He was a member of the Commission on Growth and Development and was selected for the Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum in 2005. His professional experience extends into the academic arena as a Professor of Economics and Finance at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science,Cairo University and as a Visiting Professor at several renowned Universities in Egypt,Korea,the UAE,the UK and the USA. He is a member of the International Advisory Board of Durham University Business School. He also holds leading positions in national,regional and international research centres and associations. He has authored numerous publications and articles in leading journals in the fields of economics,finance and development.

Since its inception,the Prize has been awarded 7 times. It has often not been offered,with no leader being found worthy of the award on a given year.

He is a visiting professor in practice at London School of Economics. He was one of the global leaders who spoke at the 19 September 2016 UN Summit on Refugees and Migrants,joining select presidents,prime ministers and institution leaders to address the question of 'International cooperation'. Gibril serves as technical expert in the consultations and negotiations for the Global Compact on Migration. He was the Grand Rapporteur of the Tenth Summit of the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) in Berlin in June 2017. He co-moderated Common Space of the Eighth GFMD Summit in Istanbul in October 2015. He co-chaired the seventh GFMD) in Stockholm in May 2014. In 2013,he delivered two keynote addresses at the United Nations General Assembly. He was selected to speak on behalf of global civil society and joined the UN Secretary General to open the High Level Dialogue on Migration and International Development.
