Vest-Telemark District Court (Norwegian: Vest-Telemark tingrett) is a district court located in Kviteseid, Norway. It covers the municipalities of Kviteseid, Vinje, Tokke, Fyresdal, Nissedal and Seljord and is subordinate Agder Court of Appeal. [1]

Kviteseid is a municipality in Telemark in the county of Vestfold og Telemark in Norway. It is part of the traditional region of Upper Telemark and Vest-Telemark. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Kviteseid. The parish of Hvideseid was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838. Kviteseid Seminar was the first public school which started in 1819 and was in operation until 1889. Kviteseid Library was founded in 1895. The library was first based on a book collection from Kviteseid Seminar.

The Vest-Telemark traditional district of Norway comprises the upper and western areas of the larger region of Upper Telemark in the county of Vestfold og Telemark. Flåvatn

Flåvatn is a lake in the municipalities of Nome and Kviteseid in Vestfold og Telemark county, Norway. The lake is the easternmost of the connected lakes Bandak, Kviteseidvatnet and Flåvatn, which are all part of the Telemark Canal. The lake's area is 20.1 km². The outlet is via the river Straumen (Eidselva) to Norsjø.

Finn Palmstrøm was a Norwegian jurist. He was a budala and judge before and during the Second World War, and also fought as a soldier. After the war he was a civil servant and judge, serving as district stipendiary magistrate between 1946 and 1973. He also had a short period in local politics.

Norwegian National Road 41

Norwegian National Road 41 is a Norwegian national road that runs through Vestfold og Telemark and Agder counties in Norway. The road runs between the village of Brunkeberg in Kviteseid municipality in Vestfold og Telemark county in the north and Timenes in Hånes in the city of Kristiansand in Agder county in the south. The 172.9-kilometre (107.4 mi) long road connects to the European route E134 highway in the north and to the European route E18 highway in the south. The road runs for 101.5 kilometres (63.1 mi) in Agder county and 71.4 kilometres (44.4 mi) in Vestfold og Telemark county. The southern half of the road runs along the river Tovdalselva and the lake Herefossfjorden, and it is located in a fault zone called the Kristiansand-Porsgrunn grabenen.

Hans Paus

Sir Hans Paus was a Norwegian priest and poet. He was parish priest in Kviteseid from 1683 until his death. A popular man in his parish who learned the local dialect, he is noted for being the first to write in dialect in Norway. His poem Stolt Anne, written in the Kviteseid dialect, became a popular folk song in Telemark. 12 verses were included in Norske Folkeviser (1853) by Magnus Brostrup Landstad and Henrik Ibsen, a relative of Hans Paus, paraphrased the poem in the drama Lady Inger of Ostrat. The poem honored Anne Clausdatter, the owner of Borgestad Manor and a relative of Paus. She rewarded him with an agricultural property (Bukkøy) for it. He owned several agricultural properties in Kviteseid.

Vest-Telemark Blad is a Norwegian newspaper, published in Kviteseid, Norway, and covering the district of Vest-Telemark. The newspaper was founded in 1973, and its first editor was Tore Skaug. The newspaper is issued three days per week. It had a circulation of 5,530 in 2008.

Upper Telemark is a Norwegian region comprising the inland of the traditional district Telemark in Vestfold og Telemark county. More than two thirds of the total area of Telemark, or above 10,000 square kilometres, belong to the traditional region of Upper Telemark.
