Victor Rodrigues Penalber de Oliveira (born 22 May 1990) is a Brazilian judoka. [2]

Career

Penalber started to practice judo at the age of four. He studied and trained at Universidade Gama Filho, [3] and today trains at the Instituto Reação, created by the ex-judoka Flávio Canto. He is left handed and his preferred technique is seoi-nage. [4]

His first success was the gold medal at the 2008 Pan American Judo Championships at the 73 kg class; he won again in 2013 in the 81 kg class. At the 2008 World Judo Teams Championship in Tokyo he tested positive for furosemide and was suspended for two years. [5]

Penalber competed at the 2013 World Judo Championships held in his home town, and lost his third bout to the eventual gold medalist Loïc Pietri. He won bronze medals at the 2015 World Judo Championships and 2015 Pan American Games. [6]

Penalber competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the men's 81 kg event, in which he was eliminated in the third round by Sergiu Toma. [7] [8]

Personal life

Wrestler Giullia Penalber is his sister. She also competed in judo before switching to freestyle wrestling.

Growing up in Santos, Zangrando took up judo at the age of 5 following her brother to the dojo of sensei Paulo Duarte. Throughout most of her sporting career, Zangrando trained under Duarte as a full-fledged member of the judo squad for Santos FC Judô.

Daniela Duque Estrada Polzin is a Brazilian judoka who competed in the women's extra-lightweight category. She held a 2008 Brazilian senior title for her own division, picked up a total of seventeen medals in her career, including a silver from the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, and also represented Brazil in the 57-kg class at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Giullia Rodrigues Penalber de Oliveira is a Brazilian freestyle wrestler. She is the gold medalist in the women's 57 kg event at the 2023 Pan American Games and the 2018 South American Games. She is also a two-time gold medalist in this event at the Pan American Wrestling Championships, and reached the quarterfinals three times in the World Wrestling Championships, in the 2014, 2019 and 2021 editions.

Guilherme César Schimidt is a Brazilian judoka. He currently ranks 4th in the International Judo Federation world ranking in the under-81kg category.
