Vijayalakshmi Singh is an Indian actress, director, costume designer and producer in Kannada. [2] [3] She has acted in many Kannada films and is actively involved in television projects. [4]

Early life

Vijayalakshmi was born in Mysore to film personalities D. Shankar Singh and Prathima Devi. [5] Film director Rajendra Singh Babu is her elder brother.[ citation needed ]

Career

Vijayalakshmi debuted as heroine in 1981 and went on to star opposite top Kannada actors of the time like Vishnuvardhan, Anant Nag, Ravichandran, Jai Jagadish and Ramakrishna. She worked with several top directors of the time including Puttanna Kanagal, K. Balachander, Geethapriya, K. S. L. Swamy and Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar.

Vijayalakshmi wears many hats. She was a costume designer for many of Rajendra Singh Babu's films like Bhaari Bharjari Bete, Bandhana and Hoovu Hannu. She started working as Production Controller with Rani Maharani. She has directed many successful Kannada movies with popular stars, like Ee Bandhana, Male Barali Manju Irali and Sweety Nanna Jodi . She entered television in 2020 with the Kannada serial Jothe Jotheyali. [6]

Personal life

Vijayalakshmi is married to Kannada actor Jai Jagadish. [7] The couple has three daughters Vaisiri, Vaibhavi and Vainidhi who made their acting debut in the Kannada film Yaana (2019) directed by her. [7]

Bharjari Bete is a 1981 Indian Kannada-language Western action film directed by Rajendra Singh Babu, starring Ambareesh, Jayamala and Shankar Nag. The supporting cast features Dinesh, Tiger Prabhakar and Vajramuni.

Ee Bandhana is a 2007 Indian Kannada-language drama film written, directed and co-produced by Vijayalakshmi Singh. This marks her debut directorial project. It stars Vishnuvardhan and Jayapradha. While Darshan, Ananth Nag, Tara, Sharmiela Mandre, Tarun Chandra and Jennifer Kotwal form the rest of the ensemble cast. The movie was produced by Jai Jagadish for Dakshath Combines.

B. C. Gowrishankar was an Indian cinematographer and an occasional film director and screenwriter who worked primarily in Kannada cinema. He was known for his unorthodox style as a cinematographer and was recognised for his work in both art and commercial films. Gowrishankar won six Karnataka State Film Awards during his career as a cinematographer. In 1988 he directed the fairly successful Elu Suttina Kote with Ambareesh, Gautami and a young Ramesh Aravind.

Love is a 2004 Indian Kannada-language romance film written, directed and produced by Rajendra Singh Babu. The film stars Mohanlal, Aditya, making his debut, and Rakshita in lead roles, while Amrish Puri and Kota Srinivasa Rao feature in supporting roles. This was also Mohanlal debut in Kannada. The film features soundtrack composed by Bollywood composer Anu Malik, marking his debut in Kannada cinema. A. R. Rahman's Airtel jingle was featured and reused for another four similar tunes in the film. The film was dubbed and released in Telugu as Prema Nagar and in Malayalam as Aey Taxi.

Kanchana Ganga is a 2004 Kannada-language romantic drama film directed and written by Rajendra Singh Babu and produced by Vijayalakshmi Singh, Dushyant Singh and Jai Jagadish. The film stars Shiva Rajkumar and Sridevi Vijaykumar along with Jai Jagadish, Parvin Dabbas, Sumalatha and Arjun in other pivotal roles. The film was the last work of veteran cinematographer B. C. Gowrishankar who died before the release of the film.

Prathima Devi was an Indian actress known for her work in Kannada films. Devi made her debut through the 1947 film Krishnaleela. She starred in the lead role in Jaganmohini (1951), the first Kannada film to complete 100 days at the box-office. She went on to appear in over 60 films.

Durga Prabha, known by her stage name, Hema Chaudhary is an Indian actress who has predominantly acted in Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam and Tamil films. Starting her career as a lead actress in the Telugu film Pelli Kani Pelli in 1976, she switched over to supporting roles in the 1980s.

Male Barali Manju Irali is a 2009 Kannada-language drama film directed by Vijayalakshmi Singh. It stars Srinagar Kitty, Parvathy Thiruvothu, and Naga Kiran in the lead roles. The movie draws inspiration from Sabrina starring Harrison Ford, Julia Ormond, and Greg Kinnear and was directed by Sydney Pollack. The film opened to positive reviews in July 2009.

D. Shankar Singh was an Indian film director, producer, screenwriter, exhibitor and a freedom fighter during the British rule in India. Singh, along with B. Vittalacharya co-found the "Mahatma Pictures", a production venture in 1946, that has produced over a hundred Kannada films. The very first film to release under this banner was Krishnaleela in 1947. His first directorial project was Jaganmohini in 1951. The film is recorded in history as one of the first Kannada films to have screened for over 100 days in cinema halls.

<i>Yaana</i> (film) 2019 Indian Kannada-language film

Yaana is a 2019 Kannada language road film written and directed by Vijayalakshmi Singh and produced by Harish Sherigar and Sharmila Sherigar under banners of i Entertainment and ACME Movies International Production. The music of film is scored by Joshua Sridhar and Anoop Seelin. The film is introducing: Vaibhavi, Vainidhi, Vaisiri, Sumukha, Chakravarthy and Abhishek. The other cast includes Suhasini, Sadhu Kokila, Chikanna, Rangayana Raghu and Ananth Nag. The film follows teenagers collegiates, Maya, Anjali, and Nandini, who decide to take a road trip to Goa to de-stress. The film was theatrically released on 12 July 2019.

Sri Srinivasa Kalyana is a 1952 Indian Kannada-language Hindu mythological film directed by D. Shankar Singh and B. Vittalacharya. Dr. Rajkumar played Agastya, one of the seven Saptarshis.
