Vivekananda Vidya Mandir is an English Medium co-educational school from Kindergarten to Class XII. The school is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi. It is one of the oldest and premier CBSE Senior secondary School at HEC Campus in Ranchi, Jharkhand. [1] The school was established by Sri Ramakrishna Seva Sangha, the foundation of which was laid on the day of Rath Yatra in the year 1970 on the plot of land allotted by the authorities of the Heavy Engineering Corporation Limited, Dhurwa, Ranchi. [2] The school is situated around 3 KM from Hatia Railway Station.

Motto

The motto of the school is "Tapah – Prabhaavaad deve prassadaachaha" from Svetasvatara Upanishad, and it points out that the Self is realized by the power of one’s experience and grace of God.

History

In 1963, the birth centenary Year of Swami Vivekananda, a group of devotees of the Ramakrishna Mission in the Heavy Engineering Corporation complex at Dhurwa, Ranchi formed an association named Sri Ramakrishna Seva Sangha for Self-realization through worship and selfless service. They had the guidance of Srimat Swami Vedantanandaji Maharaj, the Founder-Secretary of the Ramakrishna Mission TB Sanatorium, Dungri, Ranchi. [3] The first principal appointed was Mr. Subal Basu.

Overview

The present principal of the school is Mrs. Kiran Dwivedi and President is Mr. Kashi Nath Mukherjee. The school has more than 2000 students and is spread over six acres including six laboratories for Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, Composite Science and Home Science along with two libraries.

The school has Grooming labs, Smart Classes, Auditoriums, Modern Libraries, Math Labs, Music Room, Fine Art Room, Meditation Hall, Modern Audio Visual Room and many more. The school has indoor games facilities and also houses a large playground of area around 12000 square metre.

Swami Yatiswarananda was a vice-president of Ramakrishna Order, whose headquarter is in Belur Math. Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai is a monastic organisation for men brought into existence by Ramakrishna (1836–1886), a 19th-century saint of Bengal. The math in Chennai is the first branch center of the Ramakrishna Order in Southern India. It was established in 1897 by Swami Ramakrishnananda, one of the direct disciples of Ramakrishna. Teachings and philosophy of Swami Vivekananda

Swami Vivekananda was a Hindu from India. His teachings and philosophy are a reinterpretation and synthesis of various strands of Hindu thought, most notably classical yoga and (Advanta) Vedanta, with western esotericism and Universalism. He blended religion with nationalism, and applied this reinterpretation to various aspect's of education, faith, character building as well as social issues pertaining to India. His influence extended also to the west, and he was instrumental in introducing Yoga to the west.

Basiswar Sen

Basiswar "Boshi" Sen was an Indian agricultural scientist. He was a pioneer of the Green Revolution movement that changed the food landscape of India by growing abundant food grains, thereby reducing the possibility of any famine in the country. His wife was Gertrude Emerson Sen, an American author and specialist on Asia. He founded the Vivekananda Laboratory in the Almora region of the Himalayas. He was a friend of many notable people, such as Indian Prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru, poet Rabindranath Tagore, Julian Huxley, and D. H. Lawrence. Sen was also associated with the Ramakrishna Order and the Ramakrishna Vivekananda movement, as well as with Jagadish Chandra Bose, the Indian scientist, and Sister Nivedita, the writer, orator, freedom fighter and direct disciple of Swami Vivekananda. The Government of India awarded him the third-highest civilian honour of Padma Bhushan in 1957.
