The Volta ao Alentejo (Portuguese; English: Tour of Alentejo) is a road bicycle racing stage race held annually in the Alentejo, Portugal. [1] Since 2010, it has been organised as a 2.2 event on the UCI Europe Tour. From 2005 to 2009, the race was in category 2.1.
Rádio Popular–Boavista is a Portuguese UCI Continental cycling team based in Porto. It is the cycling team of Boavista Futebol Clube, one of the most successful Portuguese sports club. It is one of the European teams in UCI Continental Tour and one of the oldest of the peloton, founded in 1986.
AP Hotels & Resorts–Tavira–SC Farense, also known as Clube de Ciclismo de Tavira is a Portuguese professional cycling team, founded in 1979, which is based in Tavira, in the Portuguese region of Algarve. It is one of the European teams in the UCI Continental Tour.
Vitória–ASC was a Portuguese cycling team in the UCI Continental category that was formed from the association between União Ciclista de Vila do Conde and Vitória SC of Guimarães. The professional team was dissolved in 2007 due to a lack of support and investment in the team, however, continuing with basic training.

Marco António Chagas Martins is a Portuguese former racing cyclist who is a cycling commentator on RTP. A professional rider from 1976 to 1990, he won the Volta a Portugal four times, in 1982, 1983, 1985 and 1986, making him the second most successful rider in the competition, after David Blanco. Chagas was stripped from his win at the 1979 Volta a Portugal due to doping.
Tiago José Pinto Machado is a Portuguese former professional road racing cyclist, who rode professionally between 2005 and 2022 for seven different teams. He took three victories during his career – the 2009 Portuguese National Time Trial Championships, a stage at the 2010 Circuit de la Sarthe, and the general classification at the 2014 Tour of Slovenia.
Manuel António Cardoso Leal is a Portuguese former professional road bicycle racer, who competed professionally between 2006 and 2015 for the Riberalves–Boavista, Liberty Seguros, Footon–Servetto–Fuji, Team RadioShack, Caja Rural–Seguros RGA and Tavira teams. He made his Grand Tour debut in the 2010 Tour de France, but had to pull out after the Prologue due to injuries sustained in a crash.
Caja Rural–Seguros RGA is a UCI ProTeam cycling team sponsored principally by Grupo Caja Rural, a Spanish banking group. The team participates in UCI Europe Tour races and UCI World Tour events when given a wildcard invitation. The team's administrative offices and management are based in Pamplona, Navarra, Spain, but its service course is in Alsasua, Navarra. It was announced in February 2013 that the team had acquired a co-sponsor in a subsidiary of Caja Rural and would become known as Caja Rural–Seguros RGA from 21 February 2013.

His biggest win to date was the overall at the 2016 Tour of Turkey. He was named in the start list for the 2017 Giro d'Italia. In July 2019, he was named in the startlist for the 2019 Tour de France. On 12 April 2023, he received a four-year ban by UCI for doping.

Amaro Manuel Raposo Antunes is a Portuguese cyclist, who last rode for UCI Continental team W52 / FC Porto. In May 2019, he was named in the startlist for the 2019 Giro d'Italia. On 2 March 2023, he was suspended for doping retrospectively from 5 December 2022 until 5 December 2026 by the UCI. Some of his results including the 2017 and 2021 Volta a Portugal overall wins were then annulled.

Mauricio José Moreira Guarino is a Uruguayan cyclist, who currently rides for UCI Continental team Efapel Cycling. On August 15, 2022, Moreira won the Tour of Portugal, having conquered the yellow jersey during the final stage, an individual time trial.
Orluis Alberto Aular Sanabria is a Venezuelan cyclist, who currently rides for UCI ProTeam Caja Rural–Seguros RGA.
Iúri Gabriel Dantas Leitão is a Portuguese road and track cyclist, who currently rides for UCI ProTeam Caja Rural–Seguros RGA. He won a silver medal in the elimination event at the 2021 World Championships. Two years later, Leitão took the highest place on the podium after winning the 2023 World Championships omnium event, becoming the first Portuguese rider to win a world championship title in track cycling. Competing in his first Olympic Games in Paris 2024, he won a gold medal in the Madison event alongside Rui Oliveira and the silver medal in the omnium event, making him the first Portuguese track cyclist to win an Olympic medal, the first Portuguese sportsperson to win two Olympic medals in a single edition, and his country's first-ever Olympic champion in a sport other than athletics.
Delmino Albano Magalhães Pereira is a Portuguese former professional road cyclist and the current President of the Portuguese Cycling Federation. Professional from 1989 to 2001, he notably won the Portuguese National Road Race Championships in 1989 and 1997, as well as the Troféu Joaquim Agostinho in 1997. He also rode in the 1994 Vuelta a España, and finished 34th overall.
