Almería is a city and municipality of Spain, located in Andalusia. It is the capital of the province of the same name. It lies in southeastern Iberia on the Mediterranean Sea. Caliph Abd al-Rahman III founded the city in 955. The city grew wealthy during the Islamic era, becoming a world city throughout the 11th and 12th centuries. It enjoyed an active port that traded silk, oil, and raisins. Being adjacent to a small desert, Almería has an exceptionally dry climate by European standards.
Roquetas de Mar is a municipality of Almería province, in the autonomous community of Andalucía, Spain. In 2016, the population was 91,965, the municipality with the second highest population in the province behind the capital, the 14th in Andalucía and the 69th in Spain.
The XVth Mediterranean Games Almería 2005, commonly known as the 2005 Mediterranean Games, were the 15th Mediterranean Games. The Games were held in Almería, Spain over 10 days, from 24 June to 3 July 2005, where 3,203 athletes from 21 countries participated. There were a total of 258 medal events from 27 different sports.
El Ejido is a municipality of Almería province, in the autonomous community of Andalusia, Spain. It is located 32 km from Almería with a surface area of 227 km2, and as reported in 2014 had 84,144 inhabitants. El Ejido is the centre of production for fruit and vegetables in the "Comarca de El Poniente". The work opportunities the city provides attract many foreign farmhands, who look for jobs mainly in the greenhouses there. Some greenhouses have begun using computer-controlled hydroponics systems, thus saving on labour, improving efficiency and the local economy.

The football tournament was held in Almería, Spain between 23 June and 3 July 2005 as part of the 2005 Mediterranean Games and was contested by 9 teams, all countries were represented by the U-23 teams ; Spain won the gold medal.

The 2021 Clásica de Almería was the 36th edition of the Clásica de Almería road cycling one day race. It was held on 14 February 2021 as part of the 2021 UCI Europe Tour and the 2021 UCI ProSeries. The 183.3-kilometer race started in Puebla de Vícar and finish in Roquetas de Mar.
