Hartford is the capital city of the U.S. state of Connecticut. The city,located in Hartford County,had a population of 121,054 as of the 2020 census. Hartford is the most populous city in the Capitol Planning Region and the core city of the Greater Hartford metropolitan area.
The University of Connecticut (UConn) is a public land-grant research university system with its main campus in Storrs,Connecticut. It was founded in 1881 as the Storrs Agricultural School,named after two benefactors. In 1893,the school became a public land grant college,then took its current name in 1939. Philip E. Austin is an American economist who served as the 13th president of the University of Connecticut from October 1,1996 to September 14,2007. He returned to serve as interim president in May 2010 following the abrupt departure of Michael J. Hogan. Prior to UConn,Austin served as president of Colorado State University (1984–1989) and chancellor of the University of Alabama System (1989–1996).
Douglas Joseph Bennet Jr. was an American political official and college president. He was the fifteenth president of Wesleyan University,in Middletown,Connecticut,from 1995 to 2007. Before that,he served as assistant secretary of state for international organization affairs in the Clinton administration (1993–95) and assistant secretary of state for legislative affairs in the Carter administration (1977–79),was the president and CEO of National Public Radio (1983–93),and ran the United States Agency for International Development under President Carter (1979–81).

Alberto Ibargüen became President and CEO of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation in Miami,Florida in 2003. He is the former publisher of The Miami Herald and El Nuevo Herald in Miami,Florida. Under his leadership,The Miami Herald won three Pulitzer Prizes;El Nuevo Herald won Spain's Ortega y Gasset Prize for excellence in journalism. Ibargüen was elected to the American Philosophical Society in 2022. As of March 2023,Ibargüen announced his intention to retire as Knight Foundation CEO.

Joanne E. Berger-Sweeney is an American neuroscientist and the 22nd president of Trinity College,Hartford,Connecticut. She is the first African-American and the first woman to serve in the position. Earlier in her career,Berger-Sweeney did proof-of-concept work on galantamine,the second-most used drug to treat Alzheimer's disease.

Albert Nels Jorgensen was an American academic administrator who served as the seventh president of the University of Connecticut (1935–1962). Its longest-serving president and its youngest at age 36 at the time of his appointment,Jorgensen led UConn's transformation from a sleepy agricultural college to a major modern university. UConn came into existence by renaming Connecticut State College in 1939. Student enrollment rose from 844 in 1935 to 11,877 in 1962—an increase of over 1,400%. Opened in 1955,the Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts on the university's Storrs campus was named in Jorgensen's honor. The Harriet Jorgensen Theatre is named after his wife.
Charles Jeremy Hoadly (1828–1900) was an American librarian and historian who served as State Librarian and director of the Connecticut State Library from 1855 to 1900. He insisted on spelling his surname as "Hoadly," though most of his extended family spelled it "Hoadley."
Harleigh Bradley Trecker (1911–1986) was an American social work academic and administrator who served as the dean of the School of Social Work at the University of Connecticut from 1951 to 1968. UConn's campus library in Hartford was named in his honor until it closed in 2017.

Morgan Gardner Bulkeley High School is a public secondary school on the south side of Hartford,Connecticut. It was founded in 1926 and is part of the Hartford Public Schools district. The school has an academic focus on teacher preparation and humanities,as well as a computer science track. The school also has language classes in Arabic and Spanish.
Eileen Shanley Kraus was an American business executive who broke the glass ceiling to be the first woman to run a major bank in Connecticut. She was inducted into the Connecticut Women's Hall of Fame in 2002.
