War 2 is an upcoming Hindi-language action thriller film directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films. It is the sixth installment of YRF Spy Universe. The film stars Hrithik Roshan reprising his role as Major Kabir Dhaliwal with N. T. Rama Rao Jr. marking his Hindi debut, and Kiara Advani. The film serves as a sequel to War (2019). [2]

Announced in April 2023 under the title of War 2, principal photography commenced in October 2023 and has been shot across Mumbai, Salamanca, Abu Dhabi, Kashmir and Italy (Venice, Lake Como, Tuscany, Naples, the Sorrento Peninsula and the Amalfi Coast). The film is edited by Aarif Sheikh, the music composed by Pritam, cinematography was handled by Benjamin Jasper, and the dialogues are handled by Abbas Tryewala. War 2 is scheduled to release on 14 August 2025. [3] [4]

Development

At the launch of War, director Siddharth Anand who previously directed War, announced a sequel. [5] Anand said depending on the previous film would be a hit or not. In April 2023, Yash Raj Films confirmed the sequel of War. Ayan Mukerji was hired to direct the venture replacing Anand, marks his debut in YRF Spy Universe, and his first venture out of Dharma Productions. [6] [7] [8]

Casting

Hrithik Roshan was cast to reprise his role from prequel as Major Kabir Dhaliwal. Telugu Actor N. T. Rama Rao Jr. was cast as antagonist. [9] [10] Kiara Advani was cast as lead actress. [11] [12] Ashutosh Rana was cast to reprise his role as Colonel Sunil Luthra. Anil Kapoor was cast in significant role. In Tiger 3, Roshan reprised his role in a cameo in post-credits scene. [13]

Filming

Principal photography commenced in October 2023 in Salamanca, Madrid. [14] [15] A second schedule was filmed in Abu Dhabi in December 2023. [16] Both schedules were filmed without the presence of the lead actors. In March 2024, Hrithik Roshan shot his introductory sequence in Mumbai. A set resembling a Shaolin Monastery was constructed for the sequence. [17] [18] In April 2024, Roshan and Rao shot for an aerial action sequence in Vile Parle. [19] [20] [21] [22] In September 2024, a song featuring Advani and Roshan along with a few action sequences, were filmed over a 15 day schedule in Italy, across Venice, Lake Como, Naples, Tuscany, the Sorrento Peninsula and the Amalfi Coast. Music

Pritam was hired to compose the soundtrack [25] along with Tanuj Tiku composed the background score, both reuniting after the previous universe installment Tiger 3.
