Welcome is an unincorporated community in northwestern Austin County, Texas, United States. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 150 in 2000. It is located within the Greater Houston metropolitan area.
The land along Pecan Creek was settled by Anglo-Americans as early as the late 1820s. By 1852, German immigrants moved into the area. A leading member of the German community was schoolmaster J. F. Schmidt from Oldenburg, who later formed a singing club. Liking the pleasant countryside and friendly people, Schmidt named the town Welcome. In 1871, a post office opened in the settlement. By 1936, there were approximately 200 persons in the community with four commercial establishments. The population dwindled to about 60 souls with two businesses in 1950. The town recovered so that there were 175 inhabitants in 1965. From 1990 to 2000, the population was around 150 persons. [1]
Welcome is on FM 109 4.2 miles (6.8 km) north of Industry and 0.8 miles (1.3 km) south of Farm to Market Road 2502. At the intersection with Thielemann Road at Welcome, FM 109 turns from a northerly to a northeasterly direction. Thielemann Road goes northwest and connects with Speiss, Turnbow, Garlin and Zetter Roads. The Welcome Lutheran Church is on FM 109 about 0.3 miles (0.5 km) northeast of FM 2502. The addresses in Welcome all carry the 78944 zip code, the same as Industry. Bleiblerville is to the southeast on FM 2502. [2] It is also located 9 mi (14 km) southwest of Brenham. [3]
J F Schmidt established the first school in the community on the west banks of Pecan Creek. [1] Welcome is served by the Bellville Independent School District.
Industry is a town in Austin County, Texas, United States, at the junction of State Highway 159 (SH 159) and Farm to Market Road 109 (FM 109). The population was 268 at the 2020 census. Industry was the first permanent German settlement in Texas. Friedrich Ernst, Industry's founder, settled here in 1831 and gained Industry the title "Cradle of German Settlement in Texas".

The community is situated at the intersection of State Highway 71 (SH 71) and Farm to Market Road 961 (FM 961) north-northwest of El Campo, Texas. New Taiton is identified by road signs on SH 71 and FM 961. The area around the community is intensively farmed and several oil and gas wells are located nearby.
Hahn or Hahn Prairie is an unincorporated community in northwest Wharton County, in the U.S. state of Texas. The tiny community is located at the intersection of Farm to Market Road 1160 (FM 1160) and Farm to Market Road 2546 (FM 2546) northwest of El Campo. There are no road signs identifying the site but the nearby Hahn Cemetery is marked and there is a small cluster of homes around the junction. The surrounding farmland is dotted by a number of natural gas wells.
Provident City is a ghost town in the far southern panhandle of Colorado County in the U.S. state of Texas. The former settlement is located along County Road 190. The town was first settled through a land promotion scheme in 1909 and enjoyed a brief heyday. When the hoped-for railroad obviously would never come to town, people began moving away. The post office closed in 1953, and most of the land was bought up for ranching. The town no longer exists, though the original hotel survives in private hands. Reaching the site requires driving 4.3 miles (6.9 km) on a gravel road from the nearest highway.
Wied is an unincorporated area in west central Lavaca County in the U.S. state of Texas. It is located near U.S. Route 90 Alternate (US 90A) west of the county seat at Hallettsville. The first Anglo-American settlers arrived here in the 1830s, but by the late 1800s they were replaced by Germans and Czechs. The population declined after the 1940s. In 2018 the Vysehrad Independent School District operated an area school and a community center existed on US 90A.
