Wellington Olympic Association Football Club is a New Zealand Amateur association football club based in Berhampore, Wellington. The club's premier team competes in the Central League through which they have qualified for the New Zealand National League. [1]

Club history

The club was formed in 1953 by Greek immigrants as Apollon AFC and is commonly known as 'The Greeks'. The club changed its name to Christian Youth FC (CYFC) in 1959, and became Wellington Olympic in 1983. The local Greek community continues to be the basis of the club's support and a significant number of players are of Greek heritage. [2]

Christopher John Killen is a former New Zealand international footballer. Killen grew up in Wellington and played club football for Miramar Rangers. After a trial with Manchester City, he joined City's youth academy. Killen joined Oldham Athletic in July 2002 for £250,000, but failed to match his price tag because of persistent injury, and was eventually released on a free transfer.

The 2023 New Zealand Men's National League was the third season of the National League since its restructuring in 2021. 32 clubs compete in the competition, with four qualifying from the Northern League, three qualifying from the Central League and two qualifying from the Southern League for the National Championship phase. Each team can field a maximum of four foreign players as well as one additional foreign player who has Oceania Football Confederation nationality. Over the course of the season, each team must also ensure players aged 20 or under account for 10% of available playing minutes.
