The Western Australian Open and originally called the Western Australian Championships or Western Australia Championships is a defunct Grand Prix tennis circuit Men's and WTA Tour affiliated women's tennis tournament played from 1896 to 1975 at Royal King's Park Tennis Club in Perth, [1] Australia and was played on grass courts.

History

The event was first established in 1895 and continued for 78 editions the men's event was part of the ILTF Circuit from 1913 to 1967. For certain periods after the open era it was part of the ILTF Independent Tour. [1] In 1980 it then became part of the Grand Prix circuit.

The women's even was part of WTA Tour affiliated women's tennis tournament played from 1971 to 1975. The women's event ended in 1994 and had run for 88 editions from 1895.

Margaret Court was the most successful player at the tournament, winning the singles competition three times and the doubles competition in 1971, partnering Australian Evonne Goolagong for her doubles success.

The tournament played at the Fort Lauderdale Tennis Club from 1946 to 1974. It was held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in the United States and played on outdoor clay courts.

The 1970 Pepsi-Cola ILTF Grand Prix was a tennis circuit administered by the International Lawn Tennis Federation (ILTF) which served as a forerunner to the current Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) World Tour and the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Tour. It was the inaugural edition of the Grand Prix circuit and consisted of men's tournaments recognised by the ILTF. The creation of the Grand Prix circuit, on an experimental basis during its first year, was announced in April 1970 by the president of the ILTF, Ben Barnett. It was the brainchild of Jack Kramer, former tennis promoter and winner of the Wimbledon and US championships, and was aimed at countering the influence of commercial promoters, particularly Lamar Hunt and his World Championship Tennis circuit and George MacCall's National Tennis League.

The Turkey Open originally known as the Turkey International Championships also known as the Istanbul International Championships is a defunct tennis tournament that was played on outdoor clay courts, Istanbul, Turkey. The event was part of the men's amateur tennis tour (1947–1967) with the advent of the Open Era it was part of the non-aligned tour circuit of the ITF, between 1968 and 1973. In 1975 the final year it was staged it became part of the Grand Prix tennis circuit.

The 1975 WTA Tour consisted of a number of tennis tournaments for female tennis players. It was composed of the newly streamlined version of the Virginia Slims Circuit and the Woman's International Grand Prix. The year 1975 also saw the creation of the first official ranking system and these rankings were used to determine acceptance into the tournaments.

The Asian Championships also known as the Asian International Championships or Asian Lawn Tennis Championships was an open international men's and women's grass and clay court tennis tournament founded in 1949 as the International Championships of Asia. The tournament was one of eight official championships of the International Lawn Tennis Federation. It was first played at the Calcutta South Club, Calcutta, India. The international tournament was played at other locations until September 1972 when it was discontinued as part of the ILTF Independent Tour.

The Florida State Open Championships also known as the Florida State Championships or Florida Open was an open international men's and women's clay court tennis tournament founded in 1910 as the Winter Championships of Florida. It was first organised by the Palm Beach Tennis Club and first played on clay courts adjacent to the Royal Poinciana Hotel, Palm Beach Florida, United States. The international tournament was played at other locations throughout its run until September 1972 when it was discontinued as part of the ILTF Independent Tour.

The Marrickville and District Hardcourts was an open international men's and women's hard court tennis tournament founded in 1970. It was first organised by the Marrickville and District Hardcourt Tennis Association and played at the Marrickville Hardcourt Tennis Club, Marrickville in Sydney. This international tournament was part of the ILTF World Circuit until 1972, then the ILTF Independent Tour from 1973 to 1983 when it was discontinued.

The Mashonaland Championships was a combined men's and women's tennis tournament founded in 1949 as the Mashonaland Lawn Tennis Championships. The tournament was played Salisbury, Mashonaland, Rhodesia, and ran annually until 1979 when it was discontinued as part of the ILTF Independent Circuit.
