Andre Agassi defeated Andriy Medvedev in the final, 1–6, 2–6, 6–4, 6–3, 6–4 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 1999 French Open. It was his first French Open title and fourth major title overall, becoming the second man in the Open Era to complete the career Grand Slam, and the first to do so across three surfaces. He also completed the career Super Slam, the only men's singles player to do so.

In 1990 the IBM ATP Tour included the four Grand Slam tournaments, the ATP Tour World Championships, the ATP Championship Series, Single-Week, the ATP Championship Series and the ATP World Series. The World Team Cup, Davis Cup and Grand Slam Cup are included in this calendar but did not count towards the Tour.

Pete Sampras defeated Andre Agassi in the final, 6–1, 7–5, 6–4 to win the singles tennis title at the 1999 Tennis Masters Cup. It was his fifth and last Tour Finals title.

The 2000 Indian Wells Open was a tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts. It was the 27th edition of the Indian Wells Masters, and was part of the ATP Masters Series of the 2000 ATP Tour, and of the Tier I Series of the 2000 WTA Tour. Both the men's and the women's events took place at the newly built Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, California, United States. The women's tournament was played from March 10 through March 18 and the men's from March 13 through March 19.
