Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is a Canadian federal department that works towards building strong, competitive and innovative businesses and communities in Western Canada. Their main priorities focus on community economic development; trade and investment; innovation; and business development.

Under the Mulroney government, WD, along with Canada's other regional development agencies, was brought under the Innovation, Science and Economic Development portfolio, where it currently reports to Minister Navdeep Bains. [1] The Official Opposition Critic for Western Economic Diversification Canada is Matt Jeneroux. Formerly, WD was led by the Minister of Western Economic Diversification. WD's headquarters is located in Edmonton, with regional offices located in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba; the department also maintains a liaison office in Ottawa and a regional satellite office in Calgary.

On November 4, 2015, he was appointed the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development in the 29th Canadian Ministry.

Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario

The Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario is a program of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada whose mission is to address the economic development, diversification and job creation in Northern Ontario. This is a federal administrative region which extends not only south of the French and Mattawa Rivers, but all the way to Muskoka which is just south of Ontario's administrative North. FedNor especially aids women, Franco-Ontarians, youth, and Aboriginal peoples in Ontario. While a lot of progress has been made in achieving FedNor's objectives, communities in Northern Ontario continue to face the ongoing economic challenges that necessitate a stable, long-term regional development effort.

Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada, is the department of the Government of Canada with a mandate of fostering a growing, competitive, and knowledge-based Canadian economy. ISED specifically supports Canadian innovation efforts, trade and investment, enterprise growth, and customized economic development in Canadian communities.

The Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency is the Government of Canada's agency responsible for helping to create opportunities for economic growth in the Atlantic Provinces by working with the people of the region. Planned spending for 2015-2016 consisted of 171 million dollars for enterprise development, 89 million dollars for community development, 25 million dollars for internal services and 11 million dollars for policy, advocacy and coordination.
