The 9th Annual International Stoke Mandeville Games, retroactively designated as the 1960 Summer Paralympics, were the first international Paralympic Games, following on from the Stoke Mandeville Games of 1948 and 1952. They were organised under the aegis of the International Stoke Mandeville Games Federation. The term "Paralympic Games" was approved by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) first in 1984, while the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) was formed in 1989.
The 1968 Summer Paralympics were the third Paralympic Games to be held. Organised under the guidance of the International Stoke Mandeville Games Federation (ISMGF), they were known as the 17th International Stoke Mandeville Games at the time. The games were originally planned to be held alongside the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City, but in 1966, the Mexican government decided against it due to difficulties. The Israeli government offered to host the games in Tel Aviv, a suggestion that was accepted.
The 1992 Summer Paralympics were the ninth Paralympic Games to be held. They were held in Barcelona, Spain. In addition, the 1992 Paralympic Games for Persons with mental handicap were held immediately after the regular Paralympics in the Spanish capital, Madrid.
The 2004 Summer Paralympics, the 12th Summer Paralympic Games, were a major international multi-sport event for athletes with disabilities governed by the International Paralympic Committee, held in Athens, Greece from 17 to 28 September 2004. 3,806 athletes from 136 National Paralympic Committees competed. 519 medal events were held in 19 sports.
Wheelchair Fencing at the 2004 Summer Paralympics was competed in Category A and B. Category A contestants were those with good sitting balance and normal fencing arm, while Category B contestants were somewhat impaired in either of these areas. The events were held at the Helliniko Fencing Hall.

Pál Szekeres is a Hungarian fencer. He has the distinction of being the first person to have won medals at both the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Yu Chui Yee, also known as Alison Yu, is a wheelchair fencer from Hong Kong. When she was 11 years old, she suffered from bone cancer, leading to the amputation of her left leg. She began as a swimmer but switched to fencing at the age of 17. At the 2004 Summer Paralympics, she won four gold medals in both the individual and team events of épée and foil. She was the first athlete to win four gold medals in fencing in category A in 2004, actually the first female to achieve this enormous task was Marta Wyrzykowska Makowska in Sydney 2000 Paralympics although she was in category B. At the 2008 Summer Paralympics, she represented Hong Kong again, but since the team matches were canceled, she only won one gold and one silver medal in the individual events.
Hong Kong made its Paralympic Games début at the 1972 Summer Paralympics in Heidelberg, and has taken part in every subsequent edition of the Summer Paralympics. It has never participated in the Winter Paralympics.
Oman made its Paralympic Games début at the 1988 Summer Paralympics in Seoul, with competitors taking part in track and field, table tennis, weightlifting and wheelchair fencing. The country has participated in every subsequent edition of the Summer Paralympics, but has never entered the Winter Paralympics. Its delegations have got smaller over time: from seven athletes in 1988, to four in 1992, three in 1996, one in 2000, two in 2004 and one in 2008. Oman has only ever been represented by male athletes, and none has ever won a medal.
Wheelchair fencing classification is the classification system for wheelchair fencing which is governed by the IWAS. People with physical disabilities are eligible to compete included people with physical disabilities. Classification for national competitions is done through the local national Paralympic committee.
Class A is a Paralympic wheelchair fencing classification.
Wheelchair fencing has been contested at every Summer Paralympic Games since they were first held in 1960.
Carlos Soler Márquez is a Spanish wheelchair fencer who has represented Spain at five Paralympic Games. Following the 2012 Games, he retired from the sport. He is also a fencing administrator and coach, having organized a World Cup event at the fencing club where he is president.
Wheelchair fencing at the 2016 Summer Paralympics was held in Rio from 4 September to 8 September 2016.
Chan Yui Chong is a Hong Konger wheelchair fencer who has been part of the national team since 2002. She has competed for her country at the Summer Paralympics, the Asian Para Games and at the IWAS World Championships.
Zsuzsanna Krajnyák is a Hungarian Paralympic medallist in wheelchair fencing. Her first Paralympic medals came in the 2000 Summer Paralympics where she won two bronze medals. Other wheelchair fencing competitions won medals at were the European and World Championships. Krajnyák was nominated for the Laureus World Sports Award for Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability in 2006.
Gemma Collis-McCann is a British paralympic wheelchair fencer who competed in the Paralympics in 2012 and 2016. She is vice-chair of the IWAS International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation's Wheelchair Fencing Athletes' Council. She is in the GB fencing team to compete in Tokyo in 2021.
