History

A post office called White Oak was established in 1894. [3] The community took its name from nearby White Oak Creek. [4]

In 1898, Joseph Slingerland purchased 6,995 acres of land in White Oak and established a Shaker community there. The Shaker community in White Oak was the last Shaker community ever founded as well as the shortest-lived, lasting only until 1902. [5]
