Whitworth Park Academy is a co-educational secondary school located in Spennymoor, County Durham, England. [1]
The school was formerly known as Spennymoor Comprehensive up until 2012, when it merged with Tudhoe Grange School. The school was subsequently renamed Whitworth Park School.
The school moved into new buildings in 2013 that were officially opened by Prince Edward, Duke of Kent. [2]
The school used to operate a sixth form provision which offered a range of A-levels and vocational courses for students. [3] However, in August 2017 the sixth form provision was closed.
In December 2016 Whitworth Park School was rated 'Inadequate' by Ofsted [4] who identified poor achievement and lack of leadership in their report.
Previously a foundation school administered by Durham County Council, in September 2018 Whitworth Park School converted to academy status and renamed Whitworth Park Academy. The school is now sponsored by the Advance Learning Partnership.
Whitworth Park Academy offers GCSEs, BTECs and Cambridge Nationals as programmes of study for pupils.
Tudhoe Grange is a suburb of Spennymoor, in County Durham, in England. Originally it was just a couple of farms on the edge of Tudhoe township, swallowed up as Spennymoor expanded through the 19th and 20th centuries, especially by housing for workers at Tudhoe Iron Works.
Lord Grey Academy is a comprehensive 11-19 coeducational secondary academy and sixth form in West Bletchley, Milton Keynes, England. Previously a grant-maintained foundation school and specialist language and humanities college, the school academized on 1 April 2018 under the sponsorship of the Tove Learning Trust. It was created from the amalgamation of the Bletchley Grammar School and Wilton County Secondary School in 1973, opening on the site of the latter. From 2011 to 2014 the school operated, in partnership with Sir Herbert Leon Academy, the Milton Keynes South Sixth Form. In the early 2010's, Gateshead Council merged Ryton Comprehensive School and Hookergate School in High Spen. With the two schools merging, the school was renamed Charles Thorp Comprehensive School. The school later converted into an academy sponsored by Northern Education Trust and was renamed as Thorp Academy.
