The National Counties,known as the Minor Counties before 2020,are the cricketing counties of England and Wales that do not have first-class status. The game is administered by the National Counties Cricket Association (NCCA),which comes under the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). There are currently twenty teams in National Counties cricket:nineteen representing historic counties of England,plus the Wales National County Cricket Club.

Ernest Francis Carless was a Welsh cricketer. Carless was a right-handed batsman who played primarily as a wicketkeeper. David John Halfyard was an English professional cricketer who played first-class cricket for Kent County Cricket Club and Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club between 1956 and 1970. He was primarily a bowler and took nearly 1,000 wickets during his first-class career. He also played Minor County cricket for Northumberland,Durham and Cornwall. Following a road traffic accident in 1962,Halfyard retired from cricket to become an umpire but was able to return to the game in 1968.

Holmes was born in Neath,Glamorgan,Wales and is son of Geoff Holmes,a former first-class cricketer and Cricket Board of Wales director. Holmes was educated at Radyr Comprehensive School and attended Cardiff Metropolitan University.
