The Very Rev. William Clavell Ingram DD was an Anglican priest and the Dean of Peterborough in the Church of England from 1893 until his death in 1901. [1]

Born on 11 August 1834 at Chedburgh, Suffolk, the son of Rev. George Ingram and Jane Kaines Clavell, he was educated at Jesus College, Cambridge,. [2] [3] He was a master at Lancing College [4] then a chaplain to HM Forces [5] before being appointed vicar of Kirk Michael, Isle of Man. [6] From 1874, he was vicar of St Matthew's, Leicester [7] before his elevation to the deanery. In 1900–1901, he wrote and published a biography of his friend, the Rev. Canon Henry Twells. [8]

He died on 26 April 1901, and three years later a memorial to him was put in place at Peterborough Cathedral. [9] The life-size marble effigy was carved by his brother Walter Rowlands Ingram. [10] The monument stands in the south-east section close to the burial place of Mary, Queen of Scots.

Henry Twells

Rev. Canon Henry Twells (1823–1900) was an Anglican clergyman, hymn writer and poet. His best known hymn was "At Even, Ere the Sun Was Set". He also wrote the well-known poem, "Time's Paces" that depicts the apparent speeding up of time as we become older. A younger brother, Edward Twells, was the first Bishop of Bloemfontein.

The Venerable John Edward Stocks, MA was Archdeacon of Leicester from 1899 to 1920.

The Very Rev. John Cotter Macdonnell , DD, MA, was Dean of Cashel from 1862 to 1873.

Revd. Charles Richard Ball was the leading trustee and reputed Lord of Madeley Manor. In Peterborough, he was the Vicar of St Paul's Church and the Honorary Canon of Peterborough Cathedral.
