William Joseph Houston [1] (born 1968) [2] is a United States Navy admiral, serving as director of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program since 10 January 2024. He most recently served as commander of the Naval Submarine Forces, Submarine Force Atlantic and Allied Submarine Command from 2021 to 2023. [3] [4] He also served as Director of the Undersea Warfare Division from 2020 to 2021. [4] Previously, he was the Director of Plans and Operations of the United States Naval Forces Europe-Africa, Deputy Commander of the United States Sixth Fleet, and the Commander of Submarine Group 8. [5] [6] [7]

Raised in Grand Island, New York, [1] Houston earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Notre Dame in 1990. He later received a Master of Business Administration degree from the College of William & Mary. [5]

In May 2023, Houston was nominated for promotion to admiral and appointment as director of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. [8]

USS Nautilus (SSN-571) was the world's first operational nuclear-powered submarine and on 3 August 1958 became the first submarine to complete a submerged transit of the North Pole. Her initial commanding officer was Eugene "Dennis" Wilkinson, a widely respected naval officer who set the stage for many of the protocols of today's Nuclear Navy of the US, and who had a storied career during military service and afterwards.

Nuclear Power School (NPS) is a technical school operated by the U.S. Navy in Goose Creek, South Carolina as a central part of a program that trains enlisted sailors, officers, KAPL civilians and Bettis civilians for shipboard nuclear power plant operation and maintenance of surface ships and submarines in the U.S. nuclear navy. As of 2020 the United States Navy operates 98 nuclear power plants, including 71 submarines, 11 aircraft carriers, two Moored Training Ships (MTS) and two land-based training plants. NPS is the centerpiece of the training pipeline for U.S. Navy nuclear operators. It follows initial training at Nuclear Field "A" School or a college degree, and culminates with certification as a nuclear operator at one of the Navy's two Nuclear Power Training Units (NPTU).

Rear Admiral Douglas John McAneny, USN (Ret.) serves as HDR's Federal Business Group Director. He is responsible for guiding and growing HDR's federal government business practice across all HDR operating companies. He serves on both the architecture and engineering company executive teams and is a member of the Board of Directors of HDR Environmental Operations and Construction (EOC). McAneny has extensive command experience having served in a variety of operational assignments. His final at sea assignment was as Commander Submarine Forces Pacific. In this role McAneny was responsible for attack and strategic ballistic missile submarines which operated from the west coast of the United States to the Suez Canal conducting a broad array of missions in support of critical national security objectives. John Michael Richardson is a retired four-star admiral in the United States Navy who previously served as the 31st Chief of Naval Operations. He served as the Director of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program from November 2, 2012, to August 14, 2015. While serving as Director of Naval Nuclear Propulsion, itself a joint Department of Energy and Department of Navy organization, Richardson was responsible for the command and safe, reliable operation of the United States Navy's nuclear propulsion program and for all the current United States naval reactors deployed for usage as well as all facilities needed to ensure safe operations.
