Wolfram is about 90 kilometres (56 mi) west of Cairns and 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) south of Thornborough. [1] It was also known as Wolfram Camp. It is at an altitude of approximately 538 metres. [2]
The mineral wolfram (from which the town derives its name) was discovered in the area in 1891 and attracted miners from neighbouring mining regions such as Thornborough and the Palmer River, forming a settlement known initially as Wolfram Camp. [1]
Today there are few visible remains of the settlement. There are some concrete foundations of long-gone buildings, headstones in the cemetery, and a row of mango trees that mark where the school used to be. [1] [2]

Dimbulah is a town and locality in Far North Queensland, Australia, 114 kilometres (71 mi) from Cairns by road, on the Atherton Tableland. It is within the local government area of Shire of Mareeba. At the 2016 census, Dimbulah had a population of 1,050.
Radium Hill is a former minesite in South Australia which operated from 1906 until 1961. It was Australia's first uranium mine, years before the country's next major mines at Rum Jungle in the Northern Territory (opened in 1950), and the Mary Kathleen mine in Queensland (1958). The associated settlement which once housed up to 1,100 people is now a ghost town, largely abandoned and demolished. The former townsite and cemetery were provisionally listed on the South Australian Heritage Register on 24 August 2016. During its main period of production between 1954 and 1961 the mine produced nearly 1 million tonnes of davidite-bearing ore to produce about 860 tons of U3O8.
