Wrestling at the Friendship Games

Wrestling at the Friendship Games was contested in three disciplines: freestyle, Greco-Roman and sambo wrestling. Freestyle events took place at the Winter Sports Palace in Sofia, Bulgaria between 20 July and 22 July 1984 (with 80 competitors in 10 events). Greco-Roman events were contested at the Budapest Sportcsarnok in Budapest, Hungary between 13 and 15 July 1984 (with 61 competitors in 10 events). Sambo took part in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia between 1 and 2 September 1984. [1]

At the 1968 Summer Olympics, 16 wrestling events were contested, for all men. There were eight weight classes in Greco-Roman wrestling and eight classes in freestyle wrestling.

The following are the final results of the 2002 World Wrestling Championships. The 36th Men's Freestyle Competition was held in Tehran, Iran, while the 47th Men's Greco-Roman Competition was staged in Moscow, Russia and the 15th Women's Competition in Chalcis, Greece.

The following is the final results of the 1999 World Wrestling Championships. Men's Freestyle competition were held in Ankara, Turkey. Men's Greco-Roman competition were held in Piraeus, Greece and Women's competition were held in Boden, Sweden.

Athletics at the Friendship Games was contested in 41 events, 24 events by men and 17 by women. Men competed at the Grand Arena of the Central Lenin Stadium in Moscow, Soviet Union between 17 and 18 August, while women's events took place at the Evžen Rošický Stadium in Prague, Czechoslovakia between 16 and 18 August 1984.

Diving at the Friendship Games took place in Budapest, Hungary between 16 and 19 August 1984. 4 events were contested.

Fencing at the Friendship Games took place at the Budapest Sportcsarnok in Budapest, Hungary between 15 and 21 July 1984. 8 events were contested.

Mark Berger is a Ukrainian-born Canadian judoka. He won the gold medal in the men's heavyweight judo event at the 1983 Pan American Games and a bronze medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics. He also competed in sambo, winning silver at the 1988 World Championships.

The World Sambo Championships are the main championships in Sambo and Combat Sambo, organized by the Fédération Internationale de Sambo (FIAS).

The European Sambo Championships is the main sambo championships in Europe, organized by the European Sambo Federation. The first championship was held in 1972 in Riga. Ukraine plans to boycott the 2022 European Sambo Championships because Russian and Belarusian athletes will be allowed to compete with neutral status. Unlike most international federations, the International Sambo Federation (FIAS) has not banned Russian and Belarusians in response to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Garry Kallos is a Canadian former wrestler who competed in the 1984 Summer Olympics and won five gold medals at the Maccabiah Games in Israel, and sambo competitor who won a gold medal at the Pan American Games.

Dashgombyn Battulga is a Mongolian judoka and sambist. He competed in the men's extra-lightweight event at the 1992 Summer Olympics. He won silver at the 1989 Sambo World Cup, along with bronze at the 1988 World Sambo Championships and 1989 World Judo Championships.

Ivan Netov is a Bulgarian sambist and judoka. In sambo, Netov is a multiple-time medalist at the World and European Championships, winning gold at both in 1995. In judo, he won bronze at the 1992 European Championships and competed at the Summer Olympics in 1992 and 1996.

Nanzadyn Büregdaa is a Mongolian wrestler. He competed in the men's freestyle 52 kg at the 1980 Summer Olympics, placing sixth. He won gold in sambo at the 1982 World Championships and Friendship Games in 1984.

The 2021 Poland Open was an amateur wrestling event held in Warsaw, Poland between 8 and 13 June 2021. It served as the last United World Wrestling Ranking Series event of the year and played a role with regard to the 2020 Summer Olympics and 2021 World Championships' seeding. The event consisted of three competitions: the Waclaw Ziolkowski Memorial, Wladyslaw Pytlasinski Cup and Poland Open.

The 2022 Poland Open is a sport wrestling event was held in Warsaw, Poland between 20 and 24 July 2022. 26th Poland Open in Women's Wrestling, 31st Wacław Ziolkowski Memorial in Freestyle wrestling and 65th Wladyslaw Pytlasiński Memorial in Greco – Roman.
