The World U23 Wrestling Championships are the Amateur Wrestling World Championship for athletes under 23 years old and is organized by United World Wrestling. The tournament began in 2017.

United World Wrestling (UWW) is the international governing body for the sport of amateur wrestling; its duties include overseeing wrestling at the World Championships and Olympics. It presides over international competitions for various forms of wrestling, including Greco-Roman, Freestyle, Grappling, and others. The flagship event of UWW is the Wrestling World Championships.

The European Wrestling Championships is the second oldest international wrestling competition of the modern world and the main wrestling championships in Europe. It predates World Wrestling Championships and other regional wrestling championships and is second only to the wrestling events at the Olympics. From its inception in 1898 till 1927 only Greco-Roman wrestling was contested. Since 1929 separate freestyle wrestling events were held as well. Since 1970 the two Olympic wrestling styles were contested together during the same unified events. Since 1973 Sambo wrestling was included into the championships programme along with GR and freestyle wrestling. Since 2014 associated traditional wrestling styles recognized globally by UWW were incorporated into the annual championships schedule.

Wrestlers from the Iran have taken part in most of the major men's freestyle wrestling competitions over the years, in particular the Olympic Games and World Wrestling Championships.
Turan Bayramov is an Azerbaijani freestyle wrestler who competes at 70 kilograms, and 74 kilograms. Bayramov claimed a silver medal from the 2021 European Championships (70kg), was the 2019 U23 World Champion and the 2018 Cadet World and Youth Olympic Champion, as well as a medalist at multiple high level age-group competitions.
The World Junior Wrestling Championships (U20) is the main wrestling championships in the Junior age category, organised by United World Wrestling (UWW). This event was held twice in 1979 and 1980.
Hasrat Jafarov is an Azerbaijani Greco-Roman wrestler competing in the 67 kg division. He won the gold medal at the 2023 European Wrestling Championships.
The 2023 World Wrestling Championships was held from 16 to 24 September 2023 in Belgrade, Serbia. Wrestlers get a chance to win 90 quotas for the 2024 Summer Olympics from the Belgrade Worlds. Any nation which participated in the 2023 continental championships will be eligible to participate in the World Championships.
The 2023 European Cadets Wrestling Championships (U-17) is the 25th edition of European Cadets Wrestling Championship of combined events, and takes place from June 12 to 18 in Tirana, Albania. In accordance with sanctions imposed following by the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, wretslers from Russia and Belarus were not permitted to use the name, flag, or anthem of Russia or Belarus. They instead participated as "Individual Neutral Athletes" (AIN). Nevertheless, in protest against participation of Individual Neutral Athletes, the Ukrainian team withdrew from the championships.
Georgi Tibilov is a Serbian wrestler who competes in Greco-Roman wrestling. He won a bronze medal at the 2023 European Wrestling Championships, in the 60 kg category.
The 2023 World Junior Wrestling Championships (U20) was the 45th edition of the World Junior Wrestling Championships and was held in Amman, Jordan between 14 and 20 August 2023. The event was originally scheduled to be held in Warsaw, Poland from August 14-20. Due to Poland's refusal to issue visas to Russian and Belarusian wrestlers, United World Wrestling moved the tournament from Poland to Jordan.
The 2023 U23 World Wrestling Championships will be the sixth edition of the U23 World Wrestling Championships of combined events and it will held from 23 to 29 October 2023 in Tirana, Albania. United World Wrestling (UWW) authorized some Russian wrestlers to participate in the World Championships though they had participated in the pro-war rally and expressed their support for the Russo-Ukrainian war. UWW explained its decision to clear them for the World Championships by stating that their participation in certain events was not of their own will and their support for the war and the policy of their government could not be certainly concluded. After Albania was specified as the host, the Albanian government announced that the Iranian wrestling team will not receive visas due to the IRGC's cyber attacks on the Albanian government and Iran-Albania relations.
