Wyclife Kinyamal (born 2 July 1997) is a Kenyan male middle-distance runner who competes in the 800 metres. He won a gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and holds a personal best of 1:42.08 minutes.
Born in Trans Mara District, [2] he made his first impact regionally at the 2016 East and Central Africa Junior Athletics Championships, winning the 800 m. [3] He placed third at the Kenyan World Junior trials later that year, thus was not picked for the national team. [4] He had initially just focused on the high jump and took up running when he had completed high school at Mogonga Secondary School. [5]
Kinyamal established himself as an elite level runner in the 2017 season with performances on the European track circuit. At the FBK Games he set a personal best of 1:45.65 minutes to place second behind Thijmen Kupers, [6] then won the Palio Città della Quercia in a meeting record of 1:43.94 minutes. [7] The latter performance ranked him seventh in the world on time for that season. [8]
The following year he set an indoor best of 1:46.54 minutes as runner-up at the PSD Bank Meeting. [9] With a second-place finish at the Kenyan Commonwealth Games trials, he earned his first senior international selection. At the 2018 Commonwealth Games he defeated defending champion Nijel Amos in the final to become the Commonwealth champion. This was Kenya's first gold medal of the tournament that year, as his compatriots had thus far failed to win any of the distance events in which the country is traditionally strong. [5] In July he improved his PB to 1:43.12 taking third at the Diamond League meeting at London. [10]

David Lekuta Rudisha, MBS is a retired Kenyan middle-distance runner who is the world and Olympic record holder in the 800 metres. Rudisha won gold medals in the 800 m at the 2012 London and 2016 Rio Olympic Games, where, at the former, he set the world record in the event with a time of 1:40.91. He is also a two-time World champion and two-time Diamond League champion in the 800 m. Rudisha is the first and only person to ever run 800 m under 1:41, and he holds the three fastest times ever run in this event, each being a world record when set.
Pamela Jelimo is a Kenyan middle-distance runner, specialising in the 800 metres. She won the gold medal in 800 metres at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing at the age of 18. She is the first Kenyan woman to win an Olympic gold medal and also the first Kenyan to win the Golden League Jackpot. She holds both the 800 m world junior record and the senior African record over the same distance. Jelimo is also one of the youngest women to win an Olympic gold medal for Kenya.
Mercy Cherono Koech is a Kenyan professional long-distance runner. She was the silver medalist in the 5000 metres at the 2013 World Championships in Athletics.
Mark Kosgey Kiptoo is a Kenyan long-distance runner who set the world record in the marathon for the Masters age group by running 2:07:50 in the 2018 Frankfurt Marathon. He also specialized in the 5000 metres throughout his career. He is a two-time gold medalist in the event at the Military World Games and won bronze medals over the distance at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and the 2010 African Championships in Athletics. Amos claimed gold medals at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and 2015 All-Africa Games. At the African Championships in Athletics, he took golds in 2014, 2016 and 2018.
Taoufik Makhloufi is an Algerian athlete who specialises in middle-distance running. He became the 1500 metres Olympic champion at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, England. In 2016, Makhloufi took the silver medal in the 800m and 1500 m at the Summer Olympics in Rio, Brazil.
Kenneth Kiprop Kipkemoi[a] is a Kenyan long-distance runner who competes in the 10,000 metres, the half marathon, and the marathon. He was the 2012 African champion in the 10,000 m, has a half marathon best of 59:11 minutes, and was the winner of the 2018 Rotterdam Marathon with a time of 2:05:44. He also won Eindhoven Marathon in 2023 with a personal best of 2:04:52.
Faith Chepngetich Kipyegon is a Kenyan middle- and long-distance runner. Kipyegon is the current world record holder for the 1,500 metres and mile, and the former world record holder for the 5,000 metres. Kipyegon is the only three-time Olympic champion in the 1500 metres race, having won a gold medal each at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the 2024 Paris Olympics. She also won a gold medal in the 1,500 m at the 2017, 2022 and 2023 World Athletics Championships and in the 5,000 m at the 2023 World Athletics Championships. At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Kipyegon became the first athlete ever to win three consecutive gold medals in the 1500m women's race, where she also set a new Olympic record. Kipyegon had earlier on in the 2024 Paris Olympics also earned a silver medal in the women's 5000m race, an event marked by controversy. Initially disqualified for obstruction, Kipyegon's second-place finish was later reinstated. Beatrice Chebet edged her out to win the gold.
Conseslus Kipruto is a Kenyan middle-distance runner who specializes in the 3000 metres steeplechase. He was the 2016 Rio Olympic champion in the event. At the World Athletics Championships, Kipruto won gold medals in 2017 and 2019, silver medals in 2013 and 2015, and a bronze in 2022.
