XOXO is the debut studio album by Canadian-Dutch-Korean singer and songwriter based in South Korea Jeon Somi. It consists of eight tracks with the lead single of the same name. It was released on October 29, 2021, by The Black Label and distributed through YG Plus and Interscope Records.

Background and release

Jeon Somi, well known as the winner of the first installation of the Produce 101 competition series and a member of the series' temporary project girl group I.O.I, began to venture out as a soloist following the conclusion of group activities under her then agency JYP Entertainment. She eventually left JYP Entertainment and joined The Black Label and made her solo debut with the digital single "Birthday" and B-side track "Outta My Head" in June 2019.^[1] Jeon made two comebacks following year-long breaks with digital singles "What You Waiting For" in July 2020, and "Dumb Dumb" in August 2021. In the press conference for "Dumb Dumb", Jeon shared that she had "spent the past year practicing and recording a lot of songs apart from "Dumb Dumb" ... and there's a lot more coming."^[2]

On October 1, 2021, the singer uploaded an image of a pile of albums, with title XOXO and her name printed on them, onto her Instagram post with the caption "Soon to be yours x̷o̷x̷o̷."^[3] On October 14, The Black Label announced that Somi is scheduled to make a comeback with her first full-length album XOXO at the end of the month.^[4] In the following week Jeon revealed the release date and shared the tracklist of the album through her social media accounts.^[5] The album was released for digital download and streaming on October 29.^[6]

Sixteen is a 2015 reality girl group survival show created by JYP Entertainment and Mnet. The show pitted sixteen trainees against one another to secure a spot in the girl group Twice. Sixteen contestants were assessed not just by their singing and dancing abilities but also their charisma and personality. The show ran from May 5 to July 7 on Mnet for ten episodes.

Produce 101 was a 2016 girl group survival reality show on Mnet, and is the first season of the South Korean version of the franchise. It was a large-scale project in which the public "produces" a unit girl group by choosing members from a pool of 101 trainees from 46 entertainment companies as well as the group's concept, debut song, and group name. Produced by CJ ENM and Signal Entertainment Group for Mnet, the show had the second-largest budget of all shows broadcast by the latter at about four billion won.

Ennik Somi Douma, better known by her Korean name Jeon So-mi (Korean: 전소미) or by the mononym Somi, is a Canadian-Dutch-Korean singer-songwriter based in South Korea. Jeon shot to domestic stardom as the first place winner of the competition series Produce 101 and a member of the series' project girl group, I.O.I. Following the conclusion of I.O.I's group activities, Jeon ventured out as a solo artist. Under the The Black Label, Jeon debuted as a soloist on June 13, 2019 with the single "Birthday".

I.O.I was a South Korean girl group formed by CJ E&M through the 2016 reality show Produce 101 on Mnet. The group was composed of eleven members chosen from a pool of 101 trainees from various entertainment companies: Yoo Yeon-jung, Lim Na-young, Kang Mi-na, Kim Do-yeon, Jung Chae-yeon, Zhou Jieqiong, Kim So-hye, Kim Chung-ha, Choi Yoo-jung, Kim Se-jeong and Jeon So-mi. They debuted on May 4, 2016 with the EP Chrysalis and actively promoted as a whole and as a sub-unit for less than a year.

Stray Kids is a South Korean boy band formed by JYP Entertainment through the 2017 reality show of the same name. The group is composed of eight members: Bang Chan, Lee Know, Changbin, Hyunjin, Han, Felix, Seungmin, and I.N. Originally a nine-piece group, member Woojin left Stray Kids due to undisclosed personal reasons in October 2019. The group released their pre-debut extended play (EP) Mixtape in January 2018 and officially debuted on March 25 with the EP I Am Not.

The Black Label Inc. is a South Korean record label and an associate company of YG Entertainment. It was founded in 2015 by YG producer Teddy and Kush.
