Yonghoon Lee (born 22 November 1973) is a South Korean operatic tenor. He has performed at many of the most prestigious theaters in the world, including the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Metropolitan Opera, [1] Deutsche Oper Berlin, Vienna State Opera, Rome Opera, Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam, Bavarian State Opera in Munich, [2] Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Semperoper Dresden, Lyric Opera of Chicago, [3] San Francisco Opera, [4] Opera Australia, [5] [6] amongst others.

Biography

Lee studied music at Seoul National University and the Mannes College, The New School for Music. [7] He made his international debut in the title role of Don Carlo at the Teatro Municipal in Santiago, Chile. [7] He made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera in November 2010 in the same role. [8]

He has shared the stage with some of the most renowned sopranos such as Anna Netrebko.

Luciano Pavarotti said he modeled himself after Di Stefano. In an interview Pavarotti said "Di Stefano is my idol. There is a solar voice...It was the most incredible, open voice you could hear. The musicality of Di Stefano is as natural and beautiful as the voice is phenomenal". Di Stefano was also the tenor who most inspired José Carreras. He died on 3 March 2008 as a result of injuries from an attack by unknown assailants.

Nicola Martinucci is an Italian opera singer, particularly noted for his performances in the spinto tenor of roles Calaf in Turandot, Radamès in Aida, and the title role in Andrea Chénier.

Carlo Cossutta was a prominent Italian dramatic tenor of Slovene descent who had a major international opera career that spanned from the mid-1950s through the late 1990s. He began and ended his career at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires where he sang regularly from 1958 through 1998. He first drew international attention in 1964 when he sang the title role in the world premiere of Alberto Ginastera's Don Rodrigo, which led to a series of appearances at the Royal Opera, London during the 1960s. In the 1970s his international career skyrocketed with appearances at most of the major opera houses in Europe and the United States. He remained active on the international stage during the 1980s but his career slowed down significantly in the 1990s after he contracted liver cancer.

Emilio Venturini (1878–1952) was an Italian operatic lyric tenor known for his portrayal of character roles. He made his professional opera debut in 1900 in Italy where he remained for the next several years. In 1901 he sang the role of Brighella in Mascagni's Le maschere at the Teatro Regio in Turin. He made his La Scala debut in 1903 as Froh in Wagner's Das Rheingold and sang in the premiere of Umberto Giordano's Siberia. Riccardo Massi is an Italian operatic tenor who has performed at the prestigious Italian theaters Giuseppe Verdi Theatre and La Scala. He became known for his role as Mario Cavaradossi in Tosca, which he performed in autumn of 2011 at the Bavarian State Opera and performed again at the Berlin Opera Theatre in November of that year. His United States debut was in February 2012 as Radames in Aida at the Metropolitan Opera following by another summer performance that year. In the autumn of 2012, he sang in Il trovatore staged by the Canadian Opera in Toronto and in February 2013 sang Calaf in Turandot produced by the Royal Swedish Opera. He also became known for his performance as Don Alvaro in La forza del destino at the Australian Opera and the same year sang in another Aida production, this time at the Michigan Opera Theatre. From 2013 to 2014 he performed at the Royal Opera House and as Cavaradossi at the Liceu in Barcelona. Later on, he returned to Royal Swedish Opera where he sang the title role in Andrea Chenier and then Radames at the Houston Grand Opera. At the Opernhaus Zurich, he sang Calaf in December 2015. He sang Calaf again at the Teatro Degollado in Guadalajara, Mexico in November/December 2018.
