You and What Army were an English four-piece electronic rock band formed in 2007, originating from Telford. It consisted of David Brown (vocals, synthesizers, sampling, turntables), Kieran Charles Smith (vocals, guitars), Jamie Hancox (bass, backing vocals) and Zak Hammond (drums, percussion) from 2008, and previously with Joseph Allen (guitar), Darren Smith (bass), and Thomas Bridgwater (drums). Although they are predominantly a rock band, they combine several different musical styles into their sound and are mainly influenced by heavy metal and electronic music.
The band was formed in 2007 and performed extensively between September and December 2008, playing in bars, clubs and other small venues. They were voted second in Rocksound magazine's readers; poll for Best Live Unsigned Band. [1] In January 2009, the band began recording their first EP, Soundtrack to the Apocalypse in Brown's home studio. The EP was produced, mixed and mastered by Brown and was released on 5 June 2009. With the EP, the band gigged throughout the summer and supported Hadouken in Wolverhampton during Hadouken's UK September/October tour. [2]
Early in 2010, You and What Army was voted the third best unsigned act in Rock Sound magazine. [3] You and What Army then started work on a second EP, The End of the Beginning, again recording in Brown's home studio in January and February. It was released on 26 March 2010.
In 2010, You And What Army played at Download Festival, [4] T in the Park, [5] Sonisphere, [6] Underage Festival [7] and Hevy Music Festival [8] and toured with Kids in Glass Houses, and Boys Like Girls. [9] You and What Army has also performed with Hadouken!, Chase and Status, Tempa T, My Passion, Goldie Lookin Chain, Dave McPherson, and Silent Descent.
You and What Army are also the winners of the Red Bull Bedroom Jam 2010. [10]
In 2011, You and What Army played smaller headline shows. They returned to play Download Festival and Sonisphere Festival as well as Camden Crawl and Main Stage Osfest in Oswestry.
In 2012, the band released its EP You and What Army as both a digital release and physical copy. The MP3s were offered for free on NoiseTrade. You and What Army returned to perform at Download Festival in 2012 and released a music video, "Into Your Eyes", with clips from their live performance at Download festival.
The band stopped performing live and was working on their first album, which was scheduled to be released in 2013. However, on 10 July 2014, it was announced on their Facebook page that they were on indefinite hiatus, cancelling all plans of releasing what was to be their debut album.[ citation needed ]
Brown runs the YouTube channel 'Boyinaband' where he has made music tutorials, skits and videos involving the band, although he now largely creates vlogs and content centred around personal interests (including music). He has also collaborated with other YouTube creators. Brown has a career as a producer, specialising in rap, electronic and metal music. [11]
Smith previously performed under the alias 12 Story Fall but now releases under his name 'Kieran Smith'. In October 2020, Smith discussed his experiences with child loss and released music dealing with this subject. He also spoke about his new role as guitarist in Alt-Pop band Bad Money. [12] [13]
You and What Army are influenced by a variety of music genres, including rock, rap, metal, djent, and various electronic music genres such as rave, drum and bass, gabber, trance, and electro house. [14] [15] [ non-primary source needed ] The band's earliest songs didn't make use of clean vocals, [16] [17] [18] however, following the addition of guitarist and vocalist Kieran Smith, the band started incorporating clean vocals on some songs. The band's second EP, The End Of The Beginning, features both rapping and screamed vocals from frontman Dave Brown, as well as clean vocals from Kieran Smith. The band's self-titled EP features influences from djent metal on tracks such as "Lucidity" and "Take the World by Storm", Dave Brown describing the latter one as "really heavy", [19] as well as a "slow, less heavy" liquid drum and bass song ("Visionary") [20] featuring both Brown and Smith singing. [21]
In 2010, the band entered themselves into the 'Red Bull Bedroom Jam' 2010, an online competition where the prize was to win the chance to play at five major festivals and to be the opening act for major band on a full UK tour. In the first stage, You and What Army performed a live gig from a bedroom live on the Internet. In the second stage, they played on the Red Bull stages at Download Festival, T in the Park, Sonisphere, Underage Festival and Hevy Festival. In the final part of the competition, the band was picked by judges Andy Copping, Beckie Sugden, Charlie Simpson (Fightstar) and Darren Taylor ( Rocksound editor) [22] to compete against the two other remaining bands within the competition in another public online voting system, which they won. The band then spent two weeks in October in the Red Bull studio in London and recorded a four track EP, produced by John Mitchell at Outhouse Studios. It was released as a cover-mount by Rocksound magazine. The band also went on tour with Kids in Glass Houses and Boys Like Girls in support of the 'Dirt' tour in November. The EP was released as RockSound's CD cover mount on 2 February and had a CD-ROM which contained the band's progress throughout the RBBJ competition. This edition of Rock Sound had a full page feature on You and What Army.

Cancer Bats are a Canadian hardcore punk band from Toronto, Ontario. To date, they have released seven studio albums and six extended plays; with their most recent LP, Psychic Jailbreak, having been released on 15 April 2022. The band is currently composed of lead vocalist Liam Cormier, drummer Mike Peters and bassist/guitarist Jaye R. Schwarzer. The band are also currently joined by touring guitarist Jackson Landry, following the departure of founding guitarist Scott Middleton in 2021. Cancer Bats take a wide variety of influences from heavy metal sub-genres and fuse them into hardcore and punk rock, and also include elements of Southern metal. Their sound has been likened to sludge metal, as well as to that of metalcore bands such as Converge and Hatebreed. The members of Cancer Bats have also toured and recorded as a Black Sabbath tribute band under the name Bat Sabbath.
Gallows were an English hardcore punk band from Watford, Hertfordshire. The band was formed in 2005 after Laurent Barnard's previous band disbanded. Gallows' debut album, Orchestra of Wolves, was distributed in the United States by Epitaph Records. The band were subsequently signed to Warner Bros. Records for a £1 million album contract, and released their second album Grey Britain in 2009. The band has been particularly successful in the UK, with two songs charting on the UK Single Charts, and have been featured in magazines such as Kerrang!, Alternative Press and Rolling Stone.
Hadouken! were a British band formed in London in 2006 by singer, songwriter and producer James Smith and synth player Alice Spooner along with guitarist Daniel "Pilau" Rice, bassist Christopher Purcell and drummer Nick Rice. The band took its name from the special attack of the same name from the Street Fighter video game series. It was in Leeds that Hadouken! began their own record label, Surface Noise Records.
None the Less was an English band from Watford, Hertfordshire who originally formed in 2007.
Hevy Music Festival was a rock festival established by Claire Baker and James that took place annually near Folkestone, Kent, in the UK. It was originally held on 1 August 2009 on Folkestone seafront as a one-day festival with Feeder, Gary Numan and Ash as headliners. In 2010 it moved to Port Lympne Wild Animal Park and grew to a weekend camping festival held from 6–8 August. The headline artists included Glassjaw, Gallows, Sepultura and the Subways, and the festival provided a variety of rock music genres including punk rock, alternative rock, hardcore punk and heavy metal along with extreme sports displays and state-of-the-art thrill rides.
Yashin were a British post-hardcore and metalcore band formed in Glasgow, Scotland in 2006. They have toured with the likes of Limp Bizkit, Papa Roach, Black Veil Brides & Madina Lake and have also played at Download Festival, T in the Park and Sonisphere.
Hawk Eyes are a rock band from Leeds, England. They formed in late 2004 and released their official debut album Modern Bodies on 1 November 2010 through Brew Records.
Proxies were a British alternative rock band that combined many styles of rock and electronica, founded in Yorkshire, England in 2010.
Don Broco are a British rock band formed in Bedford, England, in 2008. The band consists of Rob Damiani, Simon Delaney (guitar), Tom Doyle and Matt Donnelly. The band have released four studio albums, including Priorities (2012), Automatic (2015) and Technology (2018). Their most recent album Amazing Things (2021) was their first to reach No.1 in the UK Album Charts.
Turbowolf are an English hard rock band founded in Bristol in 2008, whose members include Chris Georgiadis, Andy Ghosh (guitar), Lianna Lee Davies and Blake Davies (drums). Their first album, Turbowolf, was released in November 2011 on Hassle Records.

The Safety Fire were a British progressive metal band formed in London, England, in 2006. The Safety Fire first made a name for themselves in the UK scene with the release of their critically acclaimed EP "Sections" in 2009 and their reputation as a powerfully energetic live band. They toured extensively across the UK with bands such as Malefice, The Arusha Accord, Bleed From Within, and Rise to Remain, as well as progressive metal bands Periphery and Monuments throughout Europe. The Safety Fire also appeared at Sonisphere Festival UK in 2011 alongside Metallica, Slipknot, Mastodon, and The Mars Volta.
Heights were a British hardcore punk band from Welwyn Garden City, England. Formed in 2009, the band's line-up as of 2014 consisted of vocalist Alex Monty, guitarists Dean Richardson and Tom Green and drummer Tom Hutton. They drew musical influences from a variety of styles, including but not limited to groups such as Devil Sold His Soul, Architects, Underoath, Comeback Kid, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and Gallows.
Autumn In Disguise were a Scottish rock band formed in Aberdeen in early 2010. Originally a five-member band they started playing shows in March 2010. They released their first song, a cover of Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance", for free on the group's Bandcamp, before adding a second vocalist. They went on to release their debut EP See Me In Terror on September 1, 2010, along with a music video for the song of the same name.
Me Vs Hero were a British rock band from Blackpool, Lancashire, England. The band consisted of lead vocalist Sam Thompson, bassist Michael Booth, guitarists Bobby Pook and Grant Berry and drummer Simon Smith. The band were known for their inclusion of hardcore punk and heavy metal influences to complement their pop punk sound. The band their self-titled EP in January 2009, followed by a second EP release entitled This One's for Our Friend in December 2009, and the following year the band released their debut album Days That Shape Our Lives.

ACODA are a Four-piece alternative rock band from Corby, Northamptonshire, United Kingdom. Formed in 2008, the band consists of vocalist/guitarist Damon Tang, bassist/vocalist Stephen Crook, guitarist/vocalist Jake Crawford and drummer/vocalist Jay Russell. The band are known for their energetic and emotive live shows and blending the musical influences of rock, metal, punk rock, progressive metal and post-hardcore.
We Are Harlot, often shortened to just Harlot, is a hard rock supergroup organized by singer Danny Worsnop, of Asking Alexandria, and Jeff George, who was formerly Sebastian Bach's guitarist. The lineup also includes bassist Brian Weaver from Silvertide and drummer Bruno Agra formerly of Revolution Renaissance. Formed in 2011, they released their first single titled "Denial" in 2014 and released their self-titled debut album in 2015, which debuted in US and UK charts and sold 5,000 copies in the US in its first week.
