General Sánchez Cerro Province Province in Moquegua, Peru

The General Sánchez Cerro Province is the smallest of three provinces in the Moquegua Region of Peru. The capital of the province is Omate. The province was named after the former Peruvian army officer and president Luis Miguel Sánchez Cerro.

Ethnic groups

The people in the district are mainly indigenous citizens of Quechua descent. Quechua is the language which the majority of the population (73.38%) learnt to speak in childhood, 24.98% of the residents started speaking using the Spanish language (2007 Peru Census). [2]
