ZFKC-FM (89.9 FM, "Radio Cayman 1") is a radio station in the Cayman Islands. [2] The station is owned by the Cayman Islands Government [3] and has a news/talk format with the focus on community affairs and current events, plus blocks of music. [4]

Radio Cayman's first broadcast was on 12 April 1976 but regular programmes did not begin until December of that year. [1] [5] The station's most recent licence was issued on 11 December 2003, [6] [7] but it was amended on 18 October 2007 to reflect the move of the main Radio Cayman 1 transmitter in Grand Cayman and its Cayman Brac translator to the same 93.9 MHz frequency. [8]

In the United Kingdom, the roll-out of digital radio has been proceeding since engineering test transmissions were started by the BBC in 1990 followed by a public launch in September 1995. The UK currently has one of the world's biggest digital radio networks, with about 500 transmitters, three national DAB ensembles, one regional DAB ensemble, 48 local DAB ensembles and an increasing number of small-scale DAB ensembles broadcasting over 250 commercial and 34 BBC radio stations across the UK.
