Wang has been the leader of the women's table-tennis team of China after Deng Yaping's retirement. The China men's national basketball team represents the People's Republic of China in international basketball tournaments. The national team is governed by the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA). He was the 2015 World Championship silver medallist and the silver medallist at the 2012 Asian Indoor Athletics Championships. He has been a finalist at the World Championships in Athletics and the IAAF World Indoor Championships and represented China at the 2012 Summer Olympics and 2016 Summer Olympics.

The team now ranks 26th in the FIVB World Rankings and the current head coach is Wu Sheng.
