Zigaexperientia is the third studio album by the Japanese J-pop band Supercell, released on November 27, 2013 by SME. The album contains 15 music tracks written by Ryo, and sung by Koeda, though officially Koeda is not a member of Supercell. [1] Six of the tracks were previously released on five of Supercell's singles. Three different editions of the album were released: a regular CD version, a CD+DVD limited edition, and a CD+BD limited edition. Zigaexperientia peaked at No. 7 on the Japanese Oricon weekly albums chart.

Seven of the songs were used as theme songs for various media: "My Dearest" and "Kokuhaku" were used as theme songs for the 2011 anime television series Guilty Crown ; [2] [3] "Hakushukassai Utaawase" was used as the opening theme for the 2013 rebroadcast of the 2010 anime series Katanagatari ; [4] "Yeah Oh Ahhh Oh!" was used in a television commercial for the vocational school HAL; [5] "Gin'iro Hikōsen" was the theme song to the 2012 anime film Nerawareta Gakuen ; [6] "The Bravery" was used as the second ending theme to the 2012 anime series Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic ; [7] and "Bokura no Ashiato" was used as the ending theme to the 2012 anime series Black Rock Shooter . Production

Between 2009 and 2011, Nagi Yanagi provided the vocals for Supercell's releases, ending with Supercell's second studio album Today Is A Beautiful Day (2011). Following this, Supercell held auditions from May 25 to June 19, 2011 for the vocalist on the band's third album. The main criteria for the vocalist was his or her voice, as Supercell was not concerned with the singer's gender or age. [8] Out of about 2,000 candidates, then 15-year-old female singer Koeda was chosen. [9] [10] Ryo began by thinking about what kind of melody would fit Koeda's aggressive voice. [11] He brought together various guitars and sound effectors and started composing music for the album once he found the desired timbre using drop D tuning, which also influenced the writing of the lyrics. Ryo was partially influenced by watching Pink Floyd's Live at Pompeii concert film and bought a vintage Marshall guitar amp after seeing it used in the film. Ryo also cited Muse as an influence, wanting to make music that makes people smile. [11] According to Ryo, the album's title is a portmanteau of the Japanese word for ego, jiga (自我) (or ziga in kunrei or nihon romanization), and the Latin word for experience, experientia.

Artwork

The limited editions of Zigaexperientia came bundled with a 38-page full-color illustration booklet titled Supercell Works 3. [12] The booklet contains color illustrations for the songs including lyrics, as well as comments by Ryo and Koeda, and production photos. [13] The albums' packaging, designed by Yoshiki Usa, includes the song lyrics and the illustrations featured in Supercell Works 3. Excluding the final track "We're Still Here", each song is given an illustration by one of four artists, three of whom are members of Supercell. [13] These illustrators are listed below with the track listing. The cover art is a black and white illustration by Shirow Miwa and shows a barefoot girl in a white dress and jacket holding a traffic sign shaped like a triangular yield sign on a black background.

Release and reception

Zigaexperientia was released on November 27, 2013 in three editions: a regular CD version, a CD+DVD limited edition, and a CD+BD limited edition. [14] [15] [16] The DVD and BD contained music videos of the songs "My Dearest", "Hakushukassai Utaawase", "Gin'iro Hikōsen", "The Bravery", "Bokura no Ashiato", "Kokuhaku", and "No.525300887039". [17] [18] For the week of November 25, 2013 on Oricon's weekly albums chart, Zigaexperientia was reported to have sold over 26,000 copies in its first week of sales, peaking at No. 7, [19] and charted for 13 weeks. Supercell is an 11-member Japanese pop band led by musician and songwriter Ryo, which formed in 2007 as a dōjin music band. The other 10 members are artists and designers who provide illustrations in album booklets and music videos. Supercell started out by making use of the Hatsune Miku Vocaloid singing synthesizer to produce vocals for songs submitted to the Nico Nico Douga video sharing website. The popularity of the songs led the band to release their independent self-titled album Supercell (2008). Supercell later signed to Sony Music Entertainment Japan and had a professional release of their Supercell album in March 2009, which was updated with more songs.

Supercell is the eponymous debut studio album of Japanese J-pop band Supercell, released on March 4, 2009 by Sony Music. Supercell had originally released a dōjin (independent) version at Comiket 74 on August 16, 2008, before the band signed a record deal with Sony Music. The album contains twelve music tracks written by Ryo and the singing synthesizer Hatsune Miku was used to provide the vocals. <i>Black Rock Shooter</i> Japanese media franchise

Black Rock Shooter is a Japanese media franchise based on characters created by illustrator Ryohei Fuke, also known as Huke. It revolves around its eponymous character, a mysterious black haired girl with a blazing blue eye. The original illustration inspired a song of the same name by Supercell featuring the Vocaloid Hatsune Miku, which gained popularity on the Nico Nico Douga website.

Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari 2009 single by Supercell

"Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari" is a J-pop song by the Japanese band Supercell, written by Ryo. Supercell released it as their debut single in August 2009 by Sony Music. Livetune is a Japanese electro band which formed in 2007 as a dōjin music circle signed to Toy's Factory. The band originally consisted of two members, Kz and Kajuki P, but Kajuki P left the band in March 2009. Livetune started out by making use of the Hatsune Miku singing synthesizer to produce vocals for songs submitted to the Nico Nico Douga video sharing website. The popularity of the songs led the band to release the independent album Re:package at Comiket 73 in December 2007. Livetune made its major debut with Victor Entertainment with the professional release of their Re:package album in August 2008, which was updated with more songs. Livetune began collaborating with other artists in 2009, and has since composed music for such artists as Kotoko, ClariS, Maon Kurosaki, and fellow dōjin musician Ryo of Supercell.

ClariS is a Japanese pop music duo which formed in 2009 with singers Clara and Alice from Hokkaido, who were in junior high school at the time. The pair began singing covers and submitting them to Japanese video sharing website Niconico between 2009 and 2010. ClariS later signed to SME Records and released their debut single "Irony" in October 2010. Three more singles were released between 2011 and 2012, followed by their debut album Birthday (2012). Birthday was awarded a Gold Disc by the Recording Industry Association of Japan for having exceeded 100,000 copies shipped in a single year. Six more singles were released between 2012 and 2014, which were featured on their second album Second Story (2013) and third album Party Time (2014). Alice left the unit following Party Time's release, and Karen joined ClariS in late 2014. ClariS moved to the Sacra Music record label under Sony Music Entertainment Japan in 2017.
