North Macedonia is a country situated in southeastern Europe with geographic coordinates 41°50′N22°00′E, bordering Kosovo and Serbia to the north, Bulgaria to the east, Greece to the south and Albania to the west. The country is part of the wider region of Macedonia and makes up most of Vardar Macedonia. The country is a major transportation corridor from Western and Central Europe to Southern Europe and the Aegean Sea. North Macedonia is a landlocked country but has three major natural lakes: Lake Ohrid, Lake Prespa and Lake Dojran. It has a water area of 857 km2, while its land area is 24,856 km2.
Kočani is a town in the eastern part of North Macedonia, situated around 100 kilometres (62 mi) east from Skopje. It has a population of 24,632 and is the seat of the Kočani Municipality.

The main road M6 Štip–Radoviš-Strumica is tangentially placed on the township of Radoviš. This road is a main communication route with other parts of the country.

Bregalnica is the second largest river in North Macedonia. It starts as a spring near the mountain city of Pehchevo and it passes near the cities of Makedonska Kamenica, Kočani, Vinica and Štip, before joining the river Vardar on its way to the Aegean Sea. Recent issues have concentrated around the pollution of the river, as many of the factories located in the cities through which it passes used it as a dumping ground for waste waters, which is further aggravated with the pesticide-treated waters of the extensive rice fields near the city of Kočani. It was the place of Battle of Bregalnica.
Kočani Valley is located along the river Bregalnica in the eastern part of North Macedonia, at the latitude of 41° and 55' and longitude 22° and 25'. It covers an area of 1020 km² and extends from both sides of Bregalnica, stretching from west-southwest to east-northeast, with a length of 26 km. The bottom of the valley, i.e. its flat portion, covers an area of 115 km². The lowest point is in the western part, where the Zletovska River flows into the Bregalnica, at an altitude of 290 meters. Going east, the elevation gradually rises up to 330 meters. The difference between the lowest to the highest elevation of the valley is 40 meters.

Banjane or Banjani is a village in the municipality of Čučer-Sandevo, North Macedonia. The village lies some 15 kilometers north of Skopje, in the region of Skopska Crna Gora. Banjane is best known for its three churches, St. Nicetas and St. Elias from 14th century and St. George from 16th century.
Grdovci is a village in the municipality of Kočani, North Macedonia. The village is located in the Kočani Valley, and according to the last census of 2002 the village had 1,288 residents.
