Zulma R. Toro is an American engineer and academic administrator who has served as the president of Central Connecticut State University since January 2017.
Toro was born and raised in Puerto Rico. [1] Initially interested in become a lawyer Toro decided on pursuing a degree in an engineering-related field. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial engineering from the University of Puerto Rico,followed by a Master of Science in industrial and operations engineering from the University of Michigan. Toro then earned a Ph.D. in industrial and systems engineering from Georgia Tech. [2]
Prior to joining CCSU,Toro served as the executive vice chancellor and provost of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock,Dean of the Wichita State University College of Engineering,Dean of the Tagliatela College of Engineering at the University of New Haven,and chancellor of the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez where she was removed after 20 months in that position by the president of the university after a 2 week long strike that shut down the school for said period. The strike was started by the faculty and students. [3] Toro became the 13th President of Central Connecticut State University in January 2017,the first female and Latino to serve in the role. [4] Toro succeeded John "Jack" W. Miller,who retired on September 19,2016. [5]

Central Connecticut State University's annual undergraduate commencement exercises are held each May at the XL Center in Hartford. At present,this is the only occasion upon which bachelor's degrees are conferred by the university. Since 1989,a separate graduation ceremony has been held for recipients of postgraduate degrees. Additional midyear undergraduate commencements were held at the end of the fall terms from 1988 to 1993, and at several other points in the university's history.

Enrique Jose Lavernia is a Cuban-American material scientist and engineer. He is currently Distinguished Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of California,Irvine's Henry Samueli School of Engineering. From 2015 to 2021,he served as UC Irvine's provost and executive vice chancellor. Lavernia previously taught at the University of California,Davis,where he served as Dean of the College of Engineering and as the university's interim provost and executive vice chancellor.
