The Kamnik–Savinja Alps are a mountain range of the Southern Limestone Alps. They lie in northern Slovenia, except for the northernmost part, which lies in Austria.
Kamnik is a town in northern Slovenia. It is the central settlement of the Municipality of Kamnik. It encompasses a large part of the Kamnik Alps and the surrounding area. The town of Kamnik has ruins of two castles as well as many examples of historical architecture.

The Kamnik Bistrica flows through the town of Kamnik, where it is fed by the Nevljica River. It flows into the Sava south of Videm, about 10 km east of Ljubljana.

Nogometni Klub Stol Virtus, commonly referred to as NK Stol Virtus or simply Stol, was a Slovenian football club from Kamnik. The club was formed as SK Virtus in 1930 in the industrial Kamnik settlement, Duplica. After the war it was renamed to NK Svoboda Duplica and competed in lower rangs until 1965, when it ceased to exist for a decade. Due to the financial collapse of city rivals NK Kamnik and sponsorship of strong furniture company Stol, the club managed to take the primacy in Kamnik football. They were renamed to NK Stol and came all the way to Slovenian first league in 1981. The club was later renamed to NK Stol Virtus, but withdrew from competitions in 1991.

The team competes in the Slovenian League and in regional MEVZA Cup. Kamnik was founded in 1947, and won the Slovenian League and Slovenian Cup three times.
Odbojkarski klub Kamnik, commonly referred to as Calcit Kamnik or Calcit Volley due to sponsorship reasons, is a Slovenian women's volleyball team from Kamnik. The team competes in the Slovenian League and in regional MEVZA Cup. In 2015, the women's selection of OK Kamnik merged with OK Vital, relocated to Ljubljana and renamed to Calcit Ljubljana. The club returned to Kamnik after the 2016–17 season.
