The 2017 Isle of Anglesey County Council election, to the Isle of Anglesey County Council was held on 4 May 2017 as part of the 2017 United Kingdom local elections. All 30 council seats were up for election. The previous full election took place in 2013 and the following one in 2022.
Following the election Plaid Cymru gained two additional seats overall to become the largest party with 14 councillors. The Independents, ruling the council prior to the election, were reduced to 13 councillors. [1] Previous Independent Group leader, Ieuan Williams, stood down from this position prior to the election. The Independent council leader prior to 2013, Bryan Owen, won a seat in the Bro Aberffraw ward, having previously lost his Canolbarth Môn seat in May 2013. He won by only 6 votes, though a recount was refused by the returning officer. [1]

Later that month Plaid Cymru leader, Llinos Medi, was the only candidate to put herself forward as leader and Plaid Cymru consequently led the council with the help of support from some Independent members. [4]

The Isle of Anglesey County Council is the local authority for the Isle of Anglesey, a principal area with county status in Wales. Since 2022 the council has 35 councillors who represent 11 multi-member electoral wards.
Gwynedd Council, which styles itself by its Welsh name Cyngor Gwynedd, is the governing body for the county of Gwynedd, one of the principal areas of Wales. The council administrates internally using the Welsh language.
An election to Ceredigion County Council was held on 3 May 2012 along with elections to 20 of the other 21 local authorities in Wales, community council elections in Wales and other elections elsewhere in the United Kingdom. It was followed by the 2017 election.
An election to the Isle of Anglesey County Council was held as part of the 2013 United Kingdom local elections and took place on 2 May 2013. Anglesey was the only Welsh authority voting in 2013, the election having been postponed from 2012 by the Welsh Government, in order to allow an electoral review to take place. The next full council election took place on 4 May 2017.
The fifth election to the Carmarthenshire County Council was held on 1 May 2012. It was preceded by the 2008 election and was followed by the 2017 election. Plaid Cymru won 28 seats whilst Labour and the Independents won 23 each. The main feature of the election was a Labour recovery in the Llanelli area, and to some extent in the Gwendraeth and Ammanford area also, mainly at the expense of Independent candidates. Plaid Cymru lost ground to Labour in the Llanelli area but gained seats elsewhere, becoming the largest party. An Independent-Labour coalition was again formed, but with Labour as the leading partner. As a result, Kevin Madge replaced Meryl Gravell as the leader of the council.
The 2017 Welsh local elections were held on 4 May 2017 to elect members of all 22 local authorities in Wales. This included the Isle of Anglesey, which was previously up for election in 2013 due to having its elections delayed for a year. Community council elections also took place on the same day. These local elections were held as part of the 2017 local elections in the United Kingdom. Apart from Anglesey, the last elections were held in 2012. Normally these elections take place every four years, but the 2017 elections were postponed for a year in order to avoid clashing with the 2016 Welsh Assembly election, which itself had been postponed by a year to avoid clashing with the 2015 general election.
Ely is the name of an electoral ward in the west of the city of Cardiff, Wales, which covers its namesake community, Ely. The ward elects three county councillors to the County Council of the City and County of Cardiff. It has previously been represented by the Labour Party, until February 2019 when Plaid Cymru won one of the council seats.

Bro Aberffraw is an electoral ward in the southern corner of Anglesey, Wales. It comprises the three communities of Aberffraw, Bodorgan and Rhosyr. Canolbarth Môn elects two county councillors to the Isle of Anglesey County Council.
Fairwater is the name of an electoral ward in the west of Cardiff, capital city of Wales. It covers Fairwater and Pentrebane on the outskirts of the urban area.
