G. R. Indugopan, is an Indian screenwriter, director and a writer of Malayalam literature. [1] Known as one of the post-modern writers of Malayalam, [2] Indugopan is the director of the 2007 Malayalam movie, Ottakkayyan, and has published several books which include novels, short story anthologies, memoirs and travelogue. Biography

Indugopan was born on 19 April 1974 at Valathungal, in Kollam district of the south Indian state of Kerala. [4]

Ice-1960C, a novel by Indugopan based on nanotechnology and published by DC books, is reported to be the first technology novel in Malayalam. [5] [6] His other works include a two novel edition, Cheenkanni Vettakkarante Athmakathayum Muthala Layaniyum, [7] [8] Manaljeevikal, dealing with the mineral sand mining areas of Kollam Chavara area, [9] and Iruttu Pathradhipar, short story anthology. [10] [11] He is a recipient of several awards such as Abu Dhabi Sakthi Award (2017, for the story Kollappatti Daya), [12] Kumkumam Award, and Ashan Prize. [1] [5]

Indugopan wrote the script of Chithariyavar, a Malayalam movie featuring Sreenivasan and directed by Lalji. [13] [14] His debut as a director was with Ottakkayyan, a 2007 film. [15] His novel, Kali Gandhaki, was made into a tele-series by Madhupal which had its screen-play written by P. F. Mathews. [16]

Indugopan is a senior sub editor of Malayala Manorama daily and lives in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. [4]

Ottupulackal Velukkuty Vijayan, commonly known as O. V. Vijayan, was an Indian author and cartoonist, who was an important figure in modern Malayalam language literature. Best known for his first novel Khasakkinte Itihasam (1969), Vijayan was the author of six novels, nine short-story collections, and nine collections of essays, memoirs and reflections.

Moolayil Narayana Menon Vijayan, popularly known as Vijayan Mash was an Indian academic, orator, columnist and writer of Malayalam literature. Known for his leftist ideals and oratorical skills, Vijayan was the president of the Purogamana Kala Sahitya Sangham and served as the editor of Deshabhimani. He published a number of books of which Chithayile Velicham received the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Literary Criticism in 1982.

P. Sachidanandan, who uses the pseudonym Anand, is an Indian writer, writing primarily in Malayalam. He is one of the known living intellectuals in India. Thinakkal Padmanabhan, popularly known as T. Padmanabhan, is an Indian short story writer of Malayalam literature. He is a recipient of several awards including the Ezhuthachan Puraskaram, the highest literary award of the Government of Kerala. He declined some of the earlier awards he was selected for which include Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award (1973), Odakkuzhal Award (1995) and Sahitya Akademi Award (1996). Mahatma Gandhi University conferred on him the honoris causa degree of the Doctor of Letters in 2018. In 2023, he was honoured with the Kerala Jyothi Award, the highest civilian award given by the Kerala Government.

V. M. Girija is an Indian poet and essayist, writing in Malayalam language. She has published a number of books, which include Prem - Ek Album, the Hindi translation of her poetry anthology in Malayalam, Pranayam Oralbum. Kerala Sahithya Akademi awarded her their 2018 annual award for poetry and she is a recipient of 'Changmpuzha Award for literature' and the 'Basheer Amma Malayalam Puraskaram'.

Chandrika Balan is an Indian writer who has published books in English and Malayalam, under the pen name Chandramathi, ചന്ദ്രമതി in Malayalam. She is a writer of fiction, a translator, and critic in English and Malayalam. Chandramathi has published four books in English and 20 in Malayalam, including 12 collections of short stories, an anthology of medieval Malayalam poetry, two collections of essays, two memoirs, and five books translated from English. The Malayalam film Njandukalude Nattil Oridavela was based on her book.

C. V. Balakrishnan is an Indian writer of Malayalam literature. His novels and short stories encompass the emotional issues related to mass culture, sexual politics, fate of the marginalised and institutionalised religions. An author of more than 60 literary works along with a few film scripts and film criticisms, his best known work is the novel Ayussinte Pusthakam. He received the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award thrice and the Kerala State Film Award for Best Book on Cinema in 2002 for Cinemayude Idangal. In 2014, he won the Padmaprabha Literary Award.

Ashitha was an Indian writer of Malayalam literature, best known for her short stories, poems and translations. She helped popularize haiku poems in Malayalam through her translations. She was a recipient of the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Story and other honours including the Padmarajan Award, Lalithambika Anterjanam Smaraka Sahitya Award and Edasseri Award.

Vazhappilliyil Padmanabhan Nair Sivakumar (1947–1993), commonly identified as V. P. Sivakumar, was an Indian writer and translator, known for bringing in a new sensibility in Malayalam literature through his short stories. Besides four short story anthologies, he published a compilation of satirical articles and translated several works of Jorge Luis Borges and Eugène Ionesco into Malayalam.

P. R. Shyamala was an Indian novelist and short story writer of Malayalam literature. Known for novels such as Sararanthal and Makayiram Kayal and short stories compiled in Harishri and Ariyapedatha Peedanangal, she was a member of the Sahitya Pravartaka Sahakarana Sanghom, the general council of the Kerala Sahitya Akademi and the advisory board of the Central Board of Film Certification. Three of her stories have been adapted into films and Sararanthal was an award winning television series made in 1991, based on her novel of the same name.

Cherukad Award is an annual award given for literary works in Malayalam. The award was instituted in 1978 by Cherukad Smaraka Trust at Perinthalmanna, Kerala, India. It is named after Malayalam playwright, poet, novelist, and political activist Cherukad Govinda Pisharodi. The award comprises ₹25,000 and a citation.

Karunakaran is an Indian poet, novelist, short story writer and essayist who writes in Malayalam. Known for an original style of writing, he has published a number of novels, short story anthologies, poetry anthologies, studies and essays. He was born in Pattambi, a town in Palakkad district of the south Indian state of Kerala. His oeuvre comprises novels such as Yuvaavaayirunna Onpathu Varsham and short story anthologies like Paayakkappal and he is a recipient of the 2019 O. V. Vijayan Sahitya Puraskaram. He lives in Kuwait.

Sithara S. is an Indian feminist writer in Malayalam from Kerala. In her short stories and novels she has highlighted women's issues, gender conflict and lesbian rights. In 2004 she won Sahitya Akademi Golden Jubilee Award for her contributions to Indian literature She is also a translator from Malayalam to English and vice versa.
