Ungogo is a Local Government Area in Kano State, Nigeria. Its Secretariat are in the town of Ungogo to the north of the city of Kano.

It has an area of 204 km2 and a population of 369,657 at the 2006 census.

The 2023 Kano State gubernatorial election took place on 18 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Kano State, concurrent with elections to the Kano State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election—which was postponed from its original 11 March date—was held three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent APC Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje is term-limited and cannot seek re-election to a third term. Abba Kabir Yusuf of New Nigerian People won the election.

Muhammadu Yunusa, popularly known as Dabon Dambazau, was a member of the Fulani Islamic revivalists group who waged Islamic revival war (Jihad) on the Kingdom of Kano between 1804 and 1807. He was the first Fulani holder of the noble title of Sarkin Bai of Kano. Prior to his ascension he was the clan leader of the Dambazawa Dayeɓe Fulani Clan, an accomplished Islamic scholar and a business magnate. He was the fifth son of Malam Umaru a Fulani Business man in Borno empire during the reign of Mai Ali IV ibn Haj Hamdun (1755-1793).

The 2023 Nigerian presidential election in Kano State will be held on 25 February 2023 as part of the nationwide 2023 Nigerian presidential election to elect the president and vice president of Nigeria. Other federal elections, including elections to the House of Representatives and the Senate, will also be held on the same date while state elections will be held two weeks afterward on 11 March.
