The first elections to Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council were held on Thursday, 10 May 1973, with the entirety of the 69 seat council - three seats for each of the 23 wards - up for vote. It was the first council election as the newly formed metropolitan borough under a new constitution. The Local Government Act 1972 stipulated that the elected members were to shadow and eventually take over from the County Borough of Bolton, the Municipal Borough of Farnworth, the Urban Districts of Blackrod, Horwich, Kearsley, Little Lever, and Westhoughton, and the southern part of Turton Urban District on 1 April 1974. The order in which the councillors were elected dictated their term serving, with third-place candidates serving two years and up for re-election in 1975, second-placed three years expiring in 1976 and 1st-placed five years until 1978.

Searle Turton is a Canadian politician who is the Alberta Minister of Children and Family Services. He was elected in the 2019 Alberta general election to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta representing the electoral district of Spruce Grove-Stony Plain. Turton previously was a city councillor in the City of Spruce Grove from 2010 to 2019 until his election as MLA. He was re-elected in the 2023 Alberta general election, and in June 2023 he was appointed to Cabinet.
Massachusetts Senate's 2nd Plymouth and Bristol district in the United States is one of 40 legislative districts of the Massachusetts Senate. As of the 2010 United States Census, it includes 28.3% of Bristol County and 1.2% of Plymouth County. Since 2003, the district consists of the city of New Bedford and the towns of Acushnet, Dartmouth, and Fairhaven in Bristol County and the town of Mattapoisett in Plymouth County. From 1987 to 2003, the district consisted of Acushnet, Dartmouth, Fairhaven, and New Bedford and was numbered as the Second Bristol district.
