The history of South Korea formally begins with the Japanese surrender on 2 September 1945. Noting that, South Korea and North Korea are entirely different countries, despite still being the same people and on the same peninsula.
The Korea Times is the oldest of three English-language newspapers published daily in South Korea. It is a sister paper of the Hankook Ilbo, a major Korean language daily; both are owned by Dongwha Enterprise, a wood-based manufacturer. Since the late 1950s, it had been published by the Hankook Ilbo Media Group, but following an embezzlement scandal in 2013–2014 it was sold to Dongwha Group, which also acquired Hankook Ilbo. The president-publisher of The Korea Times is Oh Young-jin.
The Korea Football Association is the governing body of football and futsal within South Korea. It sanctions professional, semi-professional and amateur football in South Korea. Founded in 1933, the governing body became affiliated with FIFA twenty years later in 1948, and the Asian Football Confederation in 1954.
Park Geun-hye is a South Korean politician who served as the 11th president of South Korea from 2013 to 2017, when she was impeached and convicted on related corruption charges.

Choi Chung-min was a former South Korean football player and manager. Nicknamed the "Golden Legs", Choi was one of Asia's greatest strikers in the 1950s.
Ham Heung-chul was a South Korean football player and manager. While playing for the South Korea national football team, Ham won two titles in the AFC Asian Cup and three silver medals in the Asian Games. He also participated in the 1964 Summer Olympics, but conceded 20 goals during three Olympic matches. After retirement, Ham managed South Korean national team, winning the 1978 Asian Games. He also managed Hallelujah FC, and became the first manager to win the K League title.
Kim Ji-sung was a South Korean football midfielder who played for the South Korean national team in the 1954 FIFA World Cup.
Moon Jung-sik was a South Korean football player and manager. He was a member of the South Korea national football team when they won the 1960 AFC Asian Cup.
Cha Tae-sung was a South Korean footballer who competed in the 1964 Summer Olympics.

He is the only son of Lee Kun-hee and Hong Ra-hee. As of September 2021, Lee has an estimated net worth of US$11 billion, making him the fourth-wealthiest person in South Korea. In January 2021, Lee was sidelined from taking part in major Samsung business dealings after he resumed serving a prison sentence for his bribery and embezzlement convictions. He was pardoned in August 2022, before reinstating his position at Samsung.

Lee Jung-hyun is a South Korean politician. He was a member of the National Assembly and the delegate of Saenuri Party. He is also known as the first Jeolla Province born delegate of the conservative Saenuri Party since democratization in the 1980s, and widely regarded to have broken the regional discrimination in his Gyeongsang Province-oriented party as the party's first chairman from Jeolla regions. He is also regarded as one of President Park's closet aides, and this has stirred substantial unease recently during President Park's scandals in late 2016.
