Sohn Kee-chung was a Korean Olympic athlete and long-distance runner. He became the first Korean to win a medal at the Olympic Games, winning gold in the marathon at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. He was born in the Korean Peninsula, but he was forced to compete as a member of the Japanese delegation because Korea was under Japanese rule at the time. Sohn set an Olympic record of 2 hours 29 minutes 19.2 seconds.
South Korea was the host nation and competed as Korea at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. 401 competitors, 269 men and 132 women, took part in 218 events in 27 sports.

Jung is a Latin alphabet rendition of the Korean family name "정", also often spelled Jeong, Chung, Joung or Jong. The Korean family name "정" is mainly derived from three homophonous hanja. 鄭 (2,151,879), 丁 (243,803) and 程 (11,683). Cho Youn-jeong is a South Korean archer. A two-time Olympic gold medalist, she achieved both her gold medals at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. She also won an individual silver medal at the 1993 World Archery Championships, as well as a gold medal with the team.
The National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Korea (Korean: 대한민국학술원), is the senior national organization of distinguished Korean scientists and scholars. It was founded to promote learning and research in all areas of sciences by conferring membership and preferential treatment to those who have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of sciences and learning. The Academy consists of 150 Fellows who are selected by their peers for their contributions to the sciences and education.

Yoon-jung, also spelled Yoon-jeong, Youn-jeong, or Yun-jeong, is a Korean unisex given name. Its meaning depends on the hanja used to write each syllable of the name. Salut d'Amour is a 2015 South Korean romantic comedy-drama film starring Park Geun-hyung and Youn Yuh-jung and directed by Kang Je-gyu.
South Korea participated in the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia from 18 August to 2 September 2018. It was the 18th appearance of the country at the Asian Games, except the first edition in Delhi. As one of the best competitors at the Games, South Korea's best achievement was in the 2002 Busan, with the acquisition of 96 gold, 80 silver and 84 bronze medals. At the latest edition in 2014 Incheon, the country had collected 79 gold, 71 silver, and 84 bronze medals.
Minari is a 2020 American drama film written and directed by Lee Isaac Chung. It stars Steven Yeun, Han Ye-ri, Alan Kim, Noel Kate Cho, Youn Yuh-jung, and Will Patton. A semi-autobiographical take on Chung's upbringing, its plot follows a family of South Korean immigrants who move to rural Arkansas during the 1980s.
