William Wallace Guthridge was an American college basketball coach. Guthridge initially gained recognition after serving for thirty years as Dean Smith's assistant at the University of North Carolina and summing many wins as a result. Following Smith's retirement in 1997, Guthridge was head coach of the Tar Heels for three seasons. He took the team to the NCAA Final Four twice and was named national coach of the year in 1998, before retiring in 2000.

Bill Dooley is the American head men's basketball coach at the University of Richmond from 1993 through 1997. Prior to taking the helm of the Spiders basketball program, he served as assistant coach at Richmond for eight years under Dick Tarrant. Dooley began his collegiate playing career at Catholic University before transferring to the University of Richmond, where he served as team captain for the 1982–83 season. Dooley is currently an assistant coach at the University of Hartford after serving as varsity boys' basketball coach at Chestnut Hill Academy in Philadelphia.

The Ottawa Sooners are a Canadian football team based in Ottawa. The team plays in the Ontario Football Conference of the Canadian Junior Football League. The team has achieved success during its play in the CJFL, winning a total of four National Championships. After 35 years of competition (1960–1995) in the CJFL, the Sooners moved to the Quebec Junior Football League for the beginning of the 1996 season. There, the Sooners would win three Manson Cup Championships. The Sooners rejoined the CJFL for the start of the 2009 season. The Sooners have a long history in the city of Ottawa, and while playing in the QJFL they had developed a good rivalry with the Ottawa Junior Riders.

The 10th National Basketball Association All-Star Game was played on January 22, 1960, in Philadelphia. The coaches were Red Auerbach for the East, and Ed Macauley for the West.

The Indiana State Sycamores are the NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletic teams of Indiana State University. Since the 1977–78 academic year, Indiana State has been a member of the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC). The Indiana State football team has competed in Division I FCS since the 1982 season, and has been a member of the Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) since it was spun off from the Gateway Collegiate Athletic Conference (Gateway) when the latter league merged into the MVC in 1992. Past conference memberships include the Indiana College Athletic League (1895–1922), the Indiana Intercollegiate Conference (1922–1950), the Indiana Collegiate Conference (1950–1968) and the Midwestern Conference (1970–1972). The women's teams were Gateway members from the league's 1982 founding until its absorption by the MVC. In 1986, a year after the Gateway took on football as its only men's sport, the Sycamores football team joined that conference.

Béla Volentik was a Hungarian footballer and football manager. He played for Nemzeti SC, Újpest, FC Lugano and with the bronze medal winning Hungary national team at the 1960 Summer Olympics at Rome, Italy. He capped once.
