The 16th International Gold Cup was a non-championship Formula One race held at Oulton Park on August 16, 1969. The race was open to Formula One, Formula Two and Formula 5000 cars. Brabham driver Jacky Ickx was first in Formula One and first overall, ahead of Jochen Rindt giving the four wheel drive Lotus 63 its best ever result. Andrea de Adamich's Lola T142 was top Formula 5000 finisher and third overall, and Alan Rollinson in a Brabham was top Formula Two finisher and sixth overall. Jackie Stewart qualified his Matra MS80 on pole and set fastest lap but a pit stop to remedy a broken battery lead dropped him down the field. [1] [2]

The 15-lap race was won by Brabham driver Denny Hulme after he started from second position. His teammate Jack Brabham finished second and Ferrari driver Chris Amon came in third.

The season also included four non-championship races. British driver Jackie Stewart won the first of his titles with Matra-Ford.

Oulton Park Motorsport track in United Kingdom

Oulton Park is a hard surfaced track used for motor racing, close to the village of Little Budworth, Cheshire, England. It is about 5 mi (8.0 km) from Winsford, 13 mi (21 km) from Chester city centre, 8 mi (13 km) from Northwich and 17 mi (27 km) from Warrington, with a nearby rail connection along the Mid-Cheshire Line. It occupies much of the area which was previously known as the Oulton Estate. The racing circuit is owned and operated by Jonathan Palmer's MotorSport Vision organisation.

Rob Walker Racing Team was a privateer team in Formula One during the 1950s and 1960s. Founded by Johnnie Walker heir Rob Walker (1917–2002) in 1953, the team became F1's most successful privateer in history, being the first and only entrant to win a World Championship Formula One Grand Prix without ever building their own car.

The International Gold Cup is a prize awarded annually to the winner of a motor race held at the Oulton Park circuit, Cheshire, England. In the 1950s and 1960s it formed one of a number of highly regarded non-Championship Formula One races, which regularly attracted top drivers and teams. With the increasing cost of F1, the number of non-Championship events dwindled and the Gold Cup fell by the wayside in the mid-1970s. After this time the Cup was open to Formula 5000 cars, then Formula 3000 cars, before finally being reduced to a courtesy award made for the winner of the race deemed "highlight of the weekend". The Cup proper was reinstated by the Historic Sports Car Club in 2003, for the winner of a race for historic F1 cars at the same circuit.

Brabham BT24

The Repco Brabham BT24 was a Formula One racing car design. It was one of three cars used by the Brabham racing team during their championship-winning 1967 Formula One season. Only three BT24 chassis were ever raced.

Frank GardnerOAM was a racing driver from Australia. Born in Sydney, he was best known for touring car racing, winning the British Saloon Car Championship three times, and sports car racing driver but he was also a top flight open wheeler driver. He was European Formula 5000 champion, and participated in nine World Championship Formula One Grands Prix, debuting on 11 July 1964. He scored no championship points. Gardner also participated in numerous non-Championship Formula One races and his results included a third placing at the 1965 Mediterranean Grand Prix at the Autodromo di Pergusa in Sicily, fourth in the 1965 Race of Champions at Brands Hatch and third in the 1971 International Gold Cup at Oulton Park. He participated each year in the open wheeler Tasman Series held in New Zealand and Australia during the European winter, and shared the grids with the likes of Jim Clark, Graham Hill and Jochen Rindt and won the New Zealand Grand Prix.

The 14th Gold Cup was a Formula One non-championship race held at Oulton Park on 16 September 1967. The race was run over 45 laps of the circuit, and was won by Australian driver Jack Brabham in a Brabham BT24.

1972 International Gold Cup Motor car race

The 19th International Gold Cup was a non-championship Formula One race, which was held on the Oulton Park circuit, located near Tarporley, Cheshire, England on 29 May 1972.

The 1989 British Formula 3000 Championship was the first season of the British Formula 3000 Championship. Australia’s Gary Brabham took the inaugural title, racing an ex-Jean Alesi Reynard-Cosworth 88D for Bromley Motorsport. He took three race wins during the season. Brabham, son of three time World Drivers Champion, Jack Brabham, only raced in the series after a deal to race for Roni Q8 Racing in the International F3000 series fell through.

Brabham BT26

The Repco Brabham BT26 was a Formula One racing car design. A development of the previous BT24, its Repco engines were unreliable, but following a switch to Cosworth DFV engines it scored two World Championship Grand Prix wins and finished runner up in the 1969 World Constructors' Championship.

1970 International Gold Cup Motor car race

The 1970 International Gold Cup was a non-championship Formula One race held at Oulton Park on 22 August 1970. The race was open to Formula One and Formula 5000 cars. It was run in two heats of 20 laps, with the winner decided on aggregate times. The starting grid for Heat 1 was decided by a qualifying session, in which John Surtees won pole position. The grid for Heat 2 was decided by the finishing order of Heat 1. John Surtees won Heat 1 and overall, narrowly beating Heat 2 winner Jochen Rindt, with Howden Ganley posting the best aggregate result of the Formula 5000 entrants. Jackie Stewart, debuting the brand-new Tyrrell 001, set fastest lap.

1971 International Gold Cup Motor car race

The XVIII International Gold Cup was a non-championship Formula One race, and also a round of the European Formula 5000 Championship, held on 22 August 1971 at Oulton Park.

Anthony Gordon Dean was a British racing driver from England who competed in sports car racing, touring car racing, the Can-Am series and various single seat formulae, including non-championship Formula One, in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. He is known for winning a round of the Can-Am championship in 1970 as a privateer entrant.

Keith Holland is a British former racing driver from England who competed in various classes of racing in the 1960s and 1970s. He is known for winning the 1969 Madrid Grand Prix in a Formula 5000 car in a field which contained several Formula One entries. He was also a regular competitor in the British Formula 5000 Championship finishing third in the title standings on two occasions.

Michael Geoffrey Beckwith is a British former racing driver from England who competed in various classes in the 1960s and 1970s including non-championship Formula One and the Le Mans 24-hour race.
