The Eurovision Song Contest 1974 was the 19th edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest.
Simone de Macedo e Oliveira, GCIH better known as Simone de Oliveira is a Portuguese singer and actress. Simone was born and raised in Lisbon. Her Portuguese mother had black African roots in São Tomé and Príncipe, and her father was Belgian. She started singing in high school. She is a breast cancer survivor and had the sickness twice.
Croatia has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 25 times since making its debut at the 1993 contest. Between 1993 and 2011, the Croatian entrant was selected at the Dora pop festival, an event organised by the national public broadcaster Croatian Radiotelevision (HRT). Croatia's best result in the contest is a fourth-place finish in 1996 and 1999.
Macedonia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 in Helsinki, Finland. The Macedonian entry was selected through a national selection, Skopje Fest 2007, organised by the Macedonian broadcaster Macedonian Radio-Television (MRT). Karolina Gočeva represented Macedonia with the song "Mojot svet", which qualified from the competition's semi-final and placed 14th in the final, scoring 73 points. Gočeva previously represented Macedonia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2002.
Portugal was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 by Vânia Fernandes with the song "Senhora do mar ", being the forty-second Portuguese appearance at the yearly contest.
The United Kingdom has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 62 times. They first participated in the second contest in 1957. The UK has entered every year since 1959, and along with Sweden and the Netherlands, is one of only three countries with Eurovision victories in four different decades. The United Kingdom is one of the "Big 5", along with France, Germany, Italy and Spain who are automatically allowed to participate in the final as they are the five biggest financial contributors to the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). The British public broadcaster, the BBC, broadcasts the event each year and organises the national selection for the entry. The UK has won the contest five times, and has finished second on a record fifteen times.
Portugal will be present at the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 in Moscow, Russia. Portugal's entrant was chosen through the Festival da Canção 2009, held on 28 February 2009 by the Portuguese broadcaster Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP). The winner of the contest was Flor-de-Lis with "Todas as ruas do amor", gaining maximum marks from the jury, as well as coming second in the televote.
Portugal will select its entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 through the Festival da Canção competition, organised by Portuguese national broadcaster Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP). A number of changes will be made to the format of the contest from the past number of years, with two semi-finals and a final being held over one week in March 2010 to select the winner to represent Portugal in Oslo, Norway in May 2010.
Portugal participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku, Azerbaijan. The Portuguese entry was selected through Festival Da Canção 2012, a national final organised by the Portuguese broadcaster RTP. Filipa Sousa represented Portugal with the song "Vida minha", which failed to qualify from the second semi-final, achieving 13th place with 39 points.
Portugal participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Their entry was selected through the national final Festival da Canção 2014, organised by the Portuguese broadcaster Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP). Suzy performed the Portuguese entry "Quero ser tua", written by Emanuel. The song failed to qualify from the first semi-final, placing 11th with a score of 39 points.
Portugal participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 with the song "Há um mar que nos separa", written by Miguel Gameiro. The song was performed by Leonor Andrade. The Portuguese broadcaster Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP) organised the national final Festival da Canção 2015 in order to select the Portuguese entry for the 2015 contest in Vienna, Austria. After 12 songs competed through two semi-finals and a final, "Há um mar que nos separa" performed by Leonor Andrade emerged as the winner, ultimately being selected through a public televote. In the second of the Eurovision semi-finals, Portugal failed to qualify to the final, placing fourteenth out of the 17 participating countries with 19 points.
Portugal participated in and won the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 with the song "Amar pelos dois", written by Luísa Sobral and performed by her brother Salvador Sobral. Portuguese broadcaster Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP) organised the national final Festival da Canção 2017 in order to select the Portuguese entry for the 2017 contest in Kiev, Ukraine. After 16 songs competed through two semi-finals and a final, "Amar pelos dois" performed by Salvador Sobral emerged as the winner, collecting the most points from a 50/50 combination of votes from a jury made up of music professionals and a public televote.
Portugal was represented by Rita Guerra with the song "Deixa-me sonhar " in the Eurovision Song Contest 2003.
Portugal participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018. In addition to participating in the contest, the Portuguese broadcaster Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP) also hosted the event on 8, 10 and 12 May 2018, at the Altice Arena in Lisbon, after winning the competition in 2017 with the song "Amar pelos dois" performed by Salvador Sobral.
The Netherlands participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018. Waylon was internally selected by the Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS on 9 November 2017 to represent the nation at the 2018 contest in Lisbon, Portugal.
The United Kingdom participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018. The British entry for the 2018 contest in Lisbon, Portugal, was selected via the national final Eurovision: You Decide, organised by the British broadcaster BBC. On 16 November 2017, it was announced that Måns Zelmerlöw, winner of the 2015 contest for Sweden, would join the show as co-host alongside Mel Giedroyc. The national final took place on 7 February 2018 at the Brighton Dome. Six acts competed in the national final, with the song "Storm" performed by SuRie being selected the winner.
"Under the Ladder" is a song performed by Ukrainian singer Mélovin. The song was released as a digital download on 18 January 2018 through Umyh Music, and was written by Mélovin along with Mike Ryals and Anton Karskyi. It represented Ukraine in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon, Portugal. It will feature on Mélovin’s new album “Octopus”.
"Funny Girl" is a song written and performed by Latvian-Brazilian singer Laura Rizzotto. The song was released as a digital download on 6 December 2017. It represented Latvia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon, Portugal.
Portugal participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv, Israel with the song "Telemóveis", performed by Conan Osíris. The Portuguese entry for the 2019 contest was chosen through the national selection Festival da Canção, organised by the Portuguese broadcaster Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP), which consisted of two semi-finals on 16 and 23 February, and a final on 2 March 2019.
Portugal originally planned to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam, Netherlands with the song "Medo de sentir", performed by Elisa. The Portuguese entry for the 2020 contest was chosen through the national selection Festival da Canção, organised by the Portuguese broadcaster Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP), which consisted of two semi-finals on 22 and 29 February, and a final on 7 March 2020. However, the contest was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
