The 1974 World Men's Handball Championship was the eighth team handball World Championship. It was held in East Germany between 28 February-10 March 1974. Romania won the championship.

It took place in the Czech Republic, in two host cities, Brno and Zlín, from June 23 to July 3. Sixteen teams participated on the tournament, including the fifteen qualifying winners and the host nation. Denmark was the defending champion and reached the final this time as well, but fell short against Russia by a single goal.

The 1977 Women's Junior World Handball Championship was the first edition of the Women's Junior World Handball Championship with the tournament taking place in Romania from 30 September to 7 October 1977.
