The Oceania Handball Nations Championship was the official competition for senior national handball teams of Oceania, and took place every two years. In addition to crowning the Oceania champions, the tournament also served as a qualifying tournament for the World Handball Championship. Also played is the Pacific Handball Cup where states of other countries such as New Caledonia, Tahiti and Wallis and Futuna (France) and Marshall Islands, Guam and America Samoa (USA) who are ineligible for International Handball Federation world championship events, compete against member nations.

  1. 1 2 3 4 There were two NGOs for handball in New Zealand. The Handball New Zealand (HNZ) and New Zealand Handball Federation (NZHF). The HNZ was suspended by New Zealand Olympic Committee in 2006. [1] Both NGOs sent teams to the qualification.

It is ranked as the top team in Oceania, and is the Oceanian Champion, having been awarded the title in 2007 when New Zealand withdrew from the Oceania Baseball Championship. After achieving a last (16th) place in the 2013 World Baseball Classic, its rank dropped to 13, which is the lowest rank Australia ever received. The highest rank it has achieved is its current rank of 6th.

The Oceania Continent Handball Federation (OCHF) is the governing body for the Olympic sport of Handball in Oceania. It was founded in 2014 and is affiliated to the International Handball Federation (IHF).

2015 World Mens Handball Championship

The 2015 World Men's Handball Championship was the 24th staging of the World Men's Handball Championship, organised by the International Handball Federation (IHF). The final tournament was held for the first time in Qatar, from 15 January to 1 February 2015. The Qatari bid was selected over those of Norway, Poland and France after a vote by the IHF Council on 27 January 2011, in Malmö, Sweden. This was the third time that the World Championship was hosted in the Middle East And North Africa, after Egypt in 1999 and Tunisia in 2005.

New Zealand at the 2016 Summer Olympics Sporting event delegation

New Zealand competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 5 to 21 August 2016. This was the nation's twenty-third appearance as an independent nation at the Summer Olympics, having made its debut at the 1920 Games and competed at every Games since. The New Zealand team consisted of 199 athletes, 100 women and 99 men, across twenty sports, the first time New Zealand was represented by more women than men at the Summer Olympics.

The 2021 IHF World Men's Handball Championship was the 27th event hosted by the International Handball Federation and held in Egypt from 13 to 31 January 2021.

The 2007 Oceania Handball Nations Cup was the third edition of the Oceania Handball Nations Cup, held from 5 to 6 June 2007, in Sydney, Australia. The winner qualified for the 2007 World Women's Handball Championship.

In addition to crowning the Oceania champions, the tournament also serves as a qualifying tournament for the World Championships and also the Youth Olympic Games. The first competition was held in Raratonga in the Cook Islands from 3 May 2017 until 5 May 2017.

New Zealand competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Originally scheduled to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020, the 2020 Games were postponed to 23 July to 8 August 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was the country's twenty-fourth appearance as an independent nation at the Summer Olympics, having made its debut at the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp and competed at every Games since. The New Zealand team consisted of 212 athletes, 112 men and 100 women, across twenty-one sports.

New Zealand participated at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, Argentina from 6 October to 18 October 2018.

The 2025 IHF World Men's Handball Championship, will be the 29th event hosted by the International Handball Federation. It will be held in Croatia, Denmark and Norway in January 2025.

The 2027 IHF World Men's Handball Championship, will be the 30th event hosted by the International Handball Federation. It will take place in Germany in January 2027.
